Software Developer, Back End (6 months contract, Singapore based)

About the role

Agoda is looking for a Singapore-based Contract Software Engineer to support the development and improvement of systems used by Agoda’s Supply organisation. The contractor will work with the relevant engineering team to deliver well-scoped improvements across Supply platforms, supplier integrations, internal tools, and supporting services.
This is a fixed-term role focused on practical engineering delivery, system improvements, testing, operational quality, and documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend or full-stack features for Supply platforms and supplier-integration systems.
• Improve existing services through code modernisation, dependency upgrades, and adherence to engineering standards.
• Implement small-to-medium enhancements and resolve defects within an agreed scope.
• Write unit, integration, and regression tests to improve system quality.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and improve development and deployment workflows.
• Add or improve monitoring, logging, metrics, and operational dashboards.
• Collaborate with permanent engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver solutions.
• Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and other team activities.
• Investigate technical issues and support root-cause analysis where required.
• Produce clear documentation for implemented changes, technical decisions, and operational procedures.
• Follow Agoda’s security, reliability, coding, and documentation standards.

Required qualifications

• Professional experience in software development, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with at least one relevant programming language, such as:JavaKotlinScalaC#/.NET
• Experience developing backend services, APIs, or full-stack applications.
• Familiarity with Git and standard software-development practices.
• Ability to write maintainable, tested, and documented code.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a distributed and cross-functional team.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerised development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and production-support practices.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
