Part-Time Studio Assistant - Glazing & Firing

About the Role

We are looking for a Part-Time Studio Assistant with prior pottery glazing experience to handle the glazing and firing of customer pottery.

This is a hands-on production role suited for someone who is detail-oriented, reliable and comfortable working independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Glaze pottery according to our glazing standards.
• Prepare pottery and glazes for firing, including cleaning and ensuring kiln-safe bases.
• Load and unload the kiln safely and operate it according to our firing programmes.
• Monitor firing cycles and maintain records of kiln loads and firing results.
• Inspect finished pieces for glaze defects, cracks, blisters, pinholes and other firing issues.
• Identify and report damaged pottery or unusual glaze/firing results.
• Keep the glazing and kiln areas, tools and equipment clean and organised.
• Assist with glaze and kiln supply inventory when required.
• Follow all studio safety procedures.

Requirements

• Prior hands-on pottery glazing experience is required.
• Experience with kiln operation and firing is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of basic ceramic glazing and firing processes.
• Careful and detail-oriented, with a strong eye for consistency.
• Able to follow processes accurately and work independently.
• Comfortable with hands-on, repetitive work.
• Reliable, organised and responsible.
• Physically able to handle pottery and kiln shelves safely.

Training will be provided on our glazing standards, firing programmes and studio procedures.
