Mechatronics Design Engineer
About this job
Your Mission
This position is responsible for creating innovative mechatronic technology solutions to optimise manufacturing processes within Hyundai. The Mechatronic Design Engineer will be involved in the research, development, and deployment of the most suitable mechatronic system strategies and solutions, including mechatronic designs together with the necessary peripherals. The incumbent will collaborate with a talented team of researchers and engineers, contributing expertise in mechatronic system design, prototyping, testing, and analysis to push the boundaries of what the proposed solutions can achieve.
What To Expect
- Lead the design and development of bespoke mechatronic system solutions within Hyundai.
- Collaborate and communicate with cross-functional teams, including business owners and robotics engineers, to formulate requirements and design and test bespoke mechatronic system solutions.
- Initiate new ideas, strategies, and concepts for bespoke mechatronic systems.
- Define specifications for bespoke mechatronic systems to meet factory manufacturing process requirements.
- Develop mechatronic system designs that meet system specifications while considering cost, manufacturability, and delivery timelines.
- Engage and manage external collaborators and vendors to scope projects, evaluate system proposals, coordinate work tasks, advise on standards and designs, control costs, and review deliverables in a timely manner.
- Proactively review plans, progress, designs, and test results of bespoke mechatronic systems with business owners and stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
- Create and manage 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and schematic diagrams for mechatronic systems from concept development through to system deployment.
- Use hand calculations and/or computer simulations to validate designs throughout the system development process, supported by laboratory-based testing and validation.
- Develop and implement electronic/control circuits and algorithms for electromechanical and pneumatic systems.
- Build and assemble proof-of-concept (POC) prototypes, minimum viable product (MVP) prototypes, and final deployment systems using rapid prototyping and conventional manufacturing methods. Integrate essential mechanisms, sensors, actuators, and electronics into these prototypes.
- Devise test plans, create test rigs, conduct experiments, and analyse test results for bespoke mechatronic systems to ensure systems meet specifications.
- Prepare technical reports, system manuals, and patent documentation.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, with more than 2 years of experience in mechatronic system design and development.
- Strong understanding of robot manipulators, robot end effectors, AMR mechanisms, sensors, and mechatronic components.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechatronic engineering design principles, with practical and methodical product/technology development experience through hands-on prototyping and testing, as well as a pragmatic approach to balancing cost and value in development.
- Proven track record of delivering innovative design solutions, with strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects with strong organisational, coordination, and follow-up skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong ability to plan, prioritise tasks, and coordinate work effectively with others.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interface professionally and responsively with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
- Knowledge of control systems (e.g. PID/PWM, PLC), sensors, actuators (electromechanical/pneumatic), and electronics.
- Ability to program microcontrollers and design basic electrical circuitry.
- Ability to contribute effectively to design review processes, provide expert technical insights, and drive continuous improvement in design practices.
- Experience with a wide range of manufacturing processes across low-, medium-, and high-volume production environments.
- Familiarity with industry safety standards for machinery and robotics is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ROS, Gazebo, or similar simulation environments is an advantage.
