About this job

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to support research and development in materials development, thermal and chemical conversion, and sustainable feedstock utilisation. The role combines hands-on laboratory experimentation, materials preparation, reactor operation, process development, data analysis with AI assistance, and technology scale-up. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary research teams and industry partners, with a strong focus on experimental quality, safe operations, timely delivery of project milestones, and practical technology translation.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute experimental programmes for polymer conversion by pyrolysis to produce light olefins, involving catalytic reactions, materials development, thermal conversion, chemical processing, and alternative feedstock utilisation.

• Prepare, test, and evaluate catalysts, functional materials, feedstocks, and reaction systems.

• Support the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor and fluidized-bed reactor systems and associated equipment.

• Evaluate product distributions, conversion performance, selectivity, material properties, and data quality; maintain clear and traceable experimental records.

• Deliver reproducible and reliable technical results.

• Prepare concise technical reports, presentations, and regular progress updates for project discussions.

• Work closely with collaborators and cross-disciplinary research teams on reactor development, process modelling, techno-economic assessment, and scale-up planning.

• Contribute to safe laboratory operations, risk assessments, standard operating procedures, and continuous improvement of experimental workflows.

Requirements

• Diploma, BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Hands-on experimental experience in reaction engineering, catalysis, thermal conversion, pyrolysis, or process development is preferred.

• Experience with fixed-bed, fluidised-bed, or other laboratory-scale reactor systems would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

• Experience in gas, liquid, or solid product analysis, equipment maintenance, instrumentation, or troubleshooting would be beneficial.

• Good understanding in experimental planning, data analysis, technical documentation, and structured problem-solving.

• Strong commitment to laboratory safety, experimental quality, and reliable data generation.

• Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research and industry-facing team

• Self-motivated, proactive, adaptable, and willing to learn new experimental methods, equipment, and technical areas.

• Candidates with strong hands-on aptitude are welcome to apply.
