About this job
We are supporting a client delivering large-scale, technically complex, and fast-track engineering projects across the Data Centre, Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical, and Cleanroom sectors.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (Design) who can lead the full mechanical engineering design lifecycle — from concept development and tendering through construction, commissioning, and final project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems for large and complex engineering projects.
Develop mechanical design solutions while considering technical performance, constructability, cost, programme, sustainability, and client requirements.
Prepare preliminary construction budgets and cost estimates for mechanical systems during the design and planning stages.
Establish project sustainability objectives and ensure these requirements are incorporated throughout the project lifecycle.
Review mechanical designs prepared by engineers and designers to ensure compliance with contractual, technical, and client requirements.
Review and manage mechanical tender documentation, tender clarifications, technical evaluations, and contract award activities.
Implement design review processes, checklists, and progress tracking to maintain design quality and project schedules.
Conduct and participate in internal multidisciplinary design reviews together with engineering leadership.
Represent the Mechanical Engineering team in client meetings, technical discussions, design workshops, and coordination sessions.
Identify potential design, cost, or programme issues and develop effective recovery and mitigation plans.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including troubleshooting, site investigations, surveys, technical assessments, and system performance reviews.
Support RFQ pricing, technical report preparation, commercial evaluations, and final account assessments where required.
Promote strong safety practices, professional engineering standards, and effective collaboration across project teams.
Mentor and guide junior and intermediate Mechanical Engineers to strengthen overall technical capability.
Technical Project Exposure
The role will support mechanical engineering design and delivery for projects including:
Data Centres and Mission-Critical Facilities
Semiconductor / Wafer Fabrication Facilities
Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Facilities
Cleanrooms and Controlled Environments
Advanced manufacturing and other high-specification industrial developments
Experience with mechanical systems such as HVAC, chilled water systems, ventilation, process cooling, cleanroom environmental control, utilities, and related building services systems will be highly valuable.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree / Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Diploma holders may be considered with additional relevant experience and/or recognised professional qualifications.
Approximately 10–15 years of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience, preferably within engineering consultancy, EPC, design-and-build, or major project environments.
Strong track record in mechanical design, technical reviews, tendering, construction support, and testing & commissioning.
Direct project experience within Data Centre, Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical, Cleanroom, or other mission-critical facilities is strongly preferred.
Experience managing technical deliverables covering design quality, cost, project schedule, sustainability, and compliance.
Previous experience leading engineering teams and managing client relationships will be highly advantageous.
Key Competencies
Strong knowledge of current Mechanical Engineering standards, design practices, codes, and industry developments.
Excellent technical analysis, engineering judgement, and problem-solving capability.
Ability to manage competing technical, commercial, cost, and schedule requirements.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
Confident communicator with excellent client and stakeholder-management capability.
Able to work effectively across multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams.
Strong negotiation, coordination, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Safety Certifications
Building Construction Supervisor Safety Course
