About the role

AWARE is developing an original card and board game for community engagement, and we are looking for someone to help build it from scratch. You will work directly with the Strategic Communications Consultant across every stage of the design process, from early concept through to playtested prototype.

This is a hands-on, creative role with real stakes. If it goes well, the game moves into commercial production. You will have been part of that from the beginning.

What you will be doing

• Designing game mechanics, narrative structure, and player experience
• Building and iterating on paper prototypes
• Running playtesting and focus group sessions with community participants
• Designing physical game components such as cards, instruction sheets, and player aids
• Documenting your design process and findings to support ongoing development

What we are looking for

• A genuine interest in game design, particularly games centred on social interaction and storytelling
• The ability to think about why a game works, not just whether it is fun
• Comfort with early-stage creative work, where the brief is still being written
• Some experience or interest in facilitation and group dynamics
• Basic layout and design skills for producing game components (any tool works)

An interest in social issues or community work is a bonus. Curiosity and care are the baseline.
