Role Purpose

The Shipping Operator is responsible for the end-to-end commercial and operational execution of voyages for tankers (Oil, Chemicals).The primary goal is to ensure safe, cost-effective, and timely cargo delivery while maintaining strict compliance with international maritime regulations and charter party agreements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Voyage Execution & Monitoring

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Ship’s Master, charterers, brokers, and port agents.
  • Issue clear voyage instructions to vessels, ensuring compliance with Charter Party (C/P) terms.
  • Monitor vessel positions, speed, and performance to ensure ETA accuracy and bunker efficiency.

2. Cargo & Terminal Operations

  • Coordinate with surveyors, terminal operators, and port authorities to facilitate smooth loading and discharging.
  • Develop efficient stowage plans to optimize tank utilization and ensure cargo compatibility (specifically for specialized chemicals).
  • Oversee the preparation and handling of shipping documents, including Bills of Lading (B/L), Manifests, and Letters of Indemnity (LOI).

3. Financial & Claims Management

  • Perform post-fixture activities, including precise laytime calculations and tracking of demurrage/despatch.
  • Manage voyage-related expenses, including port agency appointments, bunker procurement, and proforma DA (Disbursement Account) approvals.
  • Investigate and coordinate cargo-related claims, such as shortages, contamination, or technical incidents.

Candidate Requirements

Education: Degree or Diploma in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Nautical Science, or Chemical Engineering.
Experience: 3-8 years of relevant experience in tanker operations (MR, Chemical, or LPG/LNG). Familiarity with regional Asian ports is a significant advantage.
Technical Skills: * Strong knowledge of Charter Party terms and maritime law.
Proficiency in laytime calculation software and voyage management systems (e.g., IMOS, Veson).
Understanding of chemical cargo handling and tank cleaning procedures.


Soft Skills:
Excellent negotiation and communication skills for stakeholder management.
Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with 24/7 operational availability when required.
Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
