The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

We are looking for a Project Officer with passion to work on the development of fire resistant materials. The role will focus on polymer composites and development of fire resistant materials to be used in building and construction sector. Experience working on related fields is a plus. Understanding of the standards is critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within the framework of the project to achieve and go beyond the project objectives.

  • The candidate’s primary responsibility is to understand and improve the fire resistance characteristics of polymer composite panels that are used for construction applications.

  • The candidate is expected to interact and closely work within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.

  • Expected to display a very high degree of professional ethics

  • The candidate is expected to maintain higher standards when it comes to risk assessments and maintenance of lab or equipment or supplies that include procurement and liaison with suppliers

  • Assist in and produce high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor qualification degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related field

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in similar role / technical hands-on experience in related scope

  • Familiarity with fire resistant tests, materials and principles of fire retardancy and resistance

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Good numeric and analytical skills

  • Competent in information visualization, interaction design

  • Good interpersonal skills (e.g. Ability to work independently / develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous with keen eye for details / excellent organizational / time management skills)
