Java + Kafka Developer (Contract)

Job Summary

This Software Engineer role involves designing, developing, and delivering robust Java-based solutions for Wealth Management systems. You will translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, resolve complex legacy issues, and collaborate in Agile teams to ensure stable production environments.

Responsibilities

• Communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders to facilitate understanding and decision-making
• Develop and deliver scalable, stable Java applications using Java 8+, EJB, Spring Boot, MySQL, Oracle, IBM MQ, Kafka, and related technologies
• Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into efficient, fit-for-purpose technical solutions
• Investigate and resolve complex legacy defects and production issues to maintain system stability and performance
• Ensure adherence to organizational standards including code quality, security, and performance best practices
• Collaborate effectively within Agile teams, applying Scrum or Extreme Programming methodologies to meet project goals
• Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration (CI) practices to improve code quality and delivery speed
• Analyze project requirements, estimate effort, plan timelines, and manage progress to meet key milestones
• Build strong project teams and maintain robust communication with stakeholders to ensure alignment and support throughout project lifecycles
• Drive and review technical and architectural designs, enforce architectural guidelines, and challenge existing approaches to improve solutions
• Demonstrate integrity, due care, diligence, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations while managing risks and issues proactively

Required competencies and certifications

• Proficient in Core Java 8+, JUnit, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Maven for software development
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented design
• Skilled in writing acceptance tests and applying Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Experience with Linux shell scripting commands for automation and troubleshooting
• Knowledge of Java Messaging Service (JMS) concepts and message-oriented middleware (MO)
• Proficient in relational database concepts, SQL, joins, indexes, triggers, and SQL query optimization
• Experience with Web Services including REST and SOAP
• Familiar with Spring core concepts and frameworks
• Competent using development tools such as IntelliJ, Git, SonarQube, and SonarLint

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Experience with JBOSS or other application servers
• Knowledge of Java Server Faces (JSF), Java Persistence API (JPA), and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)
• Ability to write and understand complex SQL queries
• Familiarity with React JS for front-end development
• Experience or interest in finance/banking domain
