System Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a System Engineer with strong hands-on experience in administering Windows and/or Linux-based systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring system availability, security and compliance with organisational policies.

The role requires practical knowledge of operating system installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting and security administration. Experience automating system administration tasks using PowerShell or Bash is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Patch Management

• Perform patching for Windows and/or Linux servers using Windows Server Update Services, AWS Systems Manager or equivalent cloud-native patch management tools.

• Monitor patch compliance and prepare reports for audit, security and regulatory requirements.

• Coordinate patch deployments with system owners, application support teams, developers and infrastructure teams.

• Participate in scheduled weekend maintenance activities.

• Conduct post-patching validation to confirm system stability and service availability.

• Investigate and resolve patch deployment failures and compatibility issues.

Operating System Image Management

• Build, maintain and regularly refresh standard operating system images using AWS EC2 Image Builder, AWS Systems Manager Documents or equivalent tools.

• Integrate vulnerability scanning and compliance checks into the operating system image pipeline.

• Validate the security and compliance status of images before deployment or distribution.

• Maintain version control and documentation for approved operating system images.

User Support and Operations

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for incidents, problems and service requests.

• Monitor system performance, availability and infrastructure health.

• Troubleshoot operating system, configuration, connectivity and performance issues.

• Participate in a 24/7 standby rotation to provide operational support when required.

• Escalate critical incidents and work with relevant teams to restore services promptly.

IT Service Management

• Apply ITIL practices across Incident, Problem and Change Management.

• Create and update service tickets with investigation details, actions taken and resolution steps.

• Meet agreed service-level agreements and ensure the timely resolution of tickets.

• Support root-cause analysis and corrective action planning for recurring incidents.

Documentation and Knowledge Management

• Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles and standard operating procedures.

• Develop and update runbooks for recurring operational activities.

• Document system configurations, patching procedures and troubleshooting steps.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Applicants must be Singapore citizens.

• Degree in Computer Science, Computing, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or an equivalent discipline.

• At least one year of relevant experience in system analysis, system administration, design or programming.

• At least one year of hands-on experience with Windows Server Update Services and Red Hat Enterprise Linux patch management.

• Working knowledge of Windows Server 2019, 2022 and/or 2025.

• Working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and/or 9.

• Understanding of operating system security, vulnerability management and compliance requirements.

• Good analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 standby support rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate or another relevant technical certification.

• Experience with AWS Systems Manager and AWS EC2 Image Builder.

• Experience automating system administration tasks using PowerShell and/or Bash.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, monitoring and security tools.
