Job Description
Product development for dormakaba’s surface-mounted and concealed door closers and floor springs.
Executes detailed design of assigned components and sub-assemblies for door closers and floor springs in accordance with project requirements, milestones, and schedule.
Conducts feasibility studies, FMEA, DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, cost analysis and material selection on assigned scope, with guidance from senior engineers on harder trade-offs.
Collaborates with manufacturing and suppliers on assigned components through DFM & DFA to ensure designs are producible and meet quality requirements.
Prepares and presents design proposals, progress reports, and test reports to project stakeholders; flags risks and blockers early to the project lead.
Utilizes SolidWorks software to generate detailed 3D models and production-ready technical drawings for prototypes and production.
Sets up test plans using DOE methodology, builds and evaluates prototypes, analyzes results, and iterates designs to meet performance and quality standards.
Participates in team design reviews, provides constructive feedback, contributes to invention disclosures and patent filings, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality assurance, procurement, marketing); begins to onboard newcomers and shares technical knowledge on owned components.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Material Engineering is required.
2–4 years of design experience in a product development environment, with demonstrable contribution to at least one product reaching series production.
Experienced in designing springs, custom gears (e.g. rack and pinion, worm drives), cam drives, bearings and hydraulic systems.
Skilled in material selection for steel and aluminum, with expertise in manufacturing processes, including machining, cast iron / aluminum casting, metal forming and heat treatment.
Knowledge in theoretical calculations related to the field of statics, dynamics and kinematics.
Proficiency in 3D modeling and technical drawings, SolidWorks knowledge will be preferred. Practical familiarity with DOE, FMEA, and DFM/DFA, applied with guidance from senior engineers on harder trade-offs.
Keen interest and experience in a hands on approach towards the construction of prototypes and testing.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to overcome design challenges.
Effective communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
