We are looking for a self-motivated individual to take on the role of Manager, Vessel Stowage in our India office, who will be responsible for overall supervision of vessel stowage planning, operations, liaison with ports, terminals, stevedores, and internal control processes and environment. In this role, the candidate will take accountabilities for all activities related to the stowage planning of the vessel and other assigned tasks. The candidate needs to have a strong sense of self-drive, urgency, and responsibility. One that is strong in time management, agile, and thrives in a dynamic environment, where flexible work hours will be required to accommodate vessel schedules and berthing windows.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain excellent working relationship with Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) service partners, liaising with counterparts in VSA partner companies to ensure that allocations are adhered to.
- Upholding high standards of stowage planning to ensure safe and maximum vessel utilisation with minimum operational costs
- Manage end-to-end stowage process with stakeholders, apply best practice vessel stowage processes, ensuing best stability and trim conditions, while minimizing time at port.
- Liaising with the CMD/Logistics team to optimize the repositioning of empty containers at the lowest cost.
- Work closely together with the schedule & operations team to maintain schedule, reduce cost and optimize bunker consumption.
- Performance reporting of vessel utilization, minimum ballast, restows and other key metrics associated with vessel stowage planning.
- Ad hoc duties as assigned by the direct line manager
Critical Competencies
- Degree/Diploma preferably in maritime studies or port operations or related discipline.
- Seafaring background as a Chief Officer/Master is advantageous but not mandatory
- Good knowledge of ERP systems is advantageous.
- At least 2 – 5 years on stowage planning
- Knowledge of shipboard stowage and/or terminal stowage is advantageous.
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Knowledge of EDI and system development.
- Computer literacy, especially MS Office applications, knowledge of system programming is a Prerequisite.
