About this job

  • Provide practical loss-prevention advice to shipowners, operators and other members.
  • Analyse maritime incidents, claims data and operational trends to identify recurring risks.
  • Develop loss-prevention guidance, technical publications, safety alerts and industry updates.
  • Support investigations into incidents involving navigation, cargo, machinery, pollution, personal injury and shipboard operations.
  • Coordinate vessel surveys, risk assessments and condition inspections where required.
  • Review survey findings and recommend appropriate risk-control measures.
  • Monitor changes in maritime legislation, regulations and industry practices.
  • Work closely with claims, underwriting and legal teams on technical and operational matters.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, seminars, webinars and training programmes for members.
  • Support member visits and provide advice on safety-management and operational-risk issues.
  • Participate in industry working groups, conferences and loss-prevention initiatives.
  • Build relationships with surveyors, technical experts, classification societies and maritime authorities.
  • Contribute to the development of digital tools, reports and resources for members.
  • Maintain accurate records of loss-prevention activities, recommendations and follow-up actions.
  • Travel to vessels, member offices and industry events when required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in ship operations, marine surveying, maritime safety, claims or loss prevention

Requirements

  • Degree or professional qualification in Nautical Studies, Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies or a related discipline.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in ship operations, marine surveying, maritime safety, claims or loss prevention.
  • Seagoing experience as a Deck or Engineering Officer would be advantageous.
  • A valid Certificate of Competency would be highly regarded.
  • Good understanding of shipboard operations, safety-management systems and maritime regulations.
  • Familiarity with P&I insurance, marine claims and risk-management principles would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and incident-investigation capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and communicate practical recommendations clearly.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills.
  • Confident working with shipowners, operators and senior maritime professionals.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
  • Willingness to travel when operationally required.
