About this job

What We Seek

We are looking for an early-career professional with one to four years of relevant experience in the Indian power and electricity sector. The successful candidate should have experience researching and quantitatively analysing the Indian power system, electricity markets, energy policies or related market developments, together with hands-on exposure to quantitative modelling.

Professional or research experience gained in India, together with familiarity with participants in the Indian energy community - such as government agencies, regulators, utilities, generators, renewable-energy developers, investors or research institutions -would be an advantage.

The candidate should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate findings clearly in written reports and presentations. The role is intended for candidates with one to four years of relevant professional experience in power markets, power systems, energy economics, quantitative modelling or a closely related area.

Key Responsibilities

· Research and interpret developments in the Indian power sector, including electricity-market regulations, energy policies, grid codes, market rules, tariff frameworks, regulatory instruments, generation capacity, transmission, renewable-energy integration and market reforms.

· Collect, organise and analyse electricity-market, generation, demand, price and operational data to develop evidence-based insights.

· Develop, apply and maintain quantitative models for Indian electricity-market and power-system analysis.

· Develop and apply modelling approaches for electricity-demand forecasting, market-price analysis, dispatch, unit commitment, resource adequacy, capacity-expansion studies, optimisation, scenario analysis and power-market outlooks.

· Conduct quantitative and statistical analysis and contribute to model development using Excel, Python, R, GAMS or similar analytical tools.

· Analyse regulatory and commercial developments and assess their implications for utilities, power generators, renewable-energy developers and investors in India.

· Interpret research and modelling results and translate them into clear findings for client reports and presentations.

· Contribute to consulting assignments relating to India and the wider Asia-Pacific energy sector.

· Collaborate with project teams across TLG's regional offices.

· Develop and contribute to client presentations, proposals and other project deliverables.

Requirements

· Degree in economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, statistics, data science, natural sciences or another quantitative discipline. A Master's degree is desirable but not mandatory.

· One to four years of relevant professional or research experience involving the Indian power sector, electricity markets, power systems, energy economics or energy policy.

· Hands-on experience in quantitative modelling, forecasting or optimisation, including analysing data and drawing practical conclusions from model and research outputs.

· Familiarity with the structure, institutions, regulations or market participants of the Indian power and energy sector.

· Experience using Excel and at least one quantitative tool such as Python, R, GAMS, MATLAB or similar software.

· Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to prepare clear reports and presentations.

· Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary regional team.

· A genuine interest in power-market modelling, energy economics and consulting as a career.

Preferred Experience

· Academic, research or professional experience gained within India's power or energy sector.

· Exposure to Indian electricity-market institutions, regulators, utilities, generators, renewable-energy developers or energy-sector research organisations.

· Experience working with Indian electricity-market datasets or conducting power-sector forecasting, dispatch, unit-commitment, resource-adequacy, optimisation, scenario or policy analysis.
