Munich Re is a leading global reinsurance partner, delivering exceptional value to clients and stakeholders. We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our Casualty Treaty Underwriting team in Southeast Asia (SEA) as a Senior Underwriter, based in Singapore.
Reporting to the Head of Casualty Treaty Underwriting, SEA, this role focuses on underwriting, managing, and further developing a profitable and sustainable Casualty Treaty portfolio across SEA, while providing additional support to India and selected Middle East markets as required. This role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, combined with effective portfolio management, proactive client and broker engagement, and active contribution to client and underwriting strategies. The position also plays a key role in maintaining high underwriting quality and standards across the portfolio.
Your Role:
- Underwrite new and renewal Casualty Treaty business across Motor, Liability, and Personal Accident, covering proportional, non-proportional, and non-traditional reinsurance structures
- Conduct comprehensive quantitative and qualitative risk assessments, including actuarial pricing, pricing adequacy reviews, and analysis of loss and exposure trends
- Structure, review, negotiate, and approve treaty terms, conditions, and wordings with disciplined underwriting judgment, in line with delegated authority, internal guidelines, business targets, and client strategies
- Shape and drive underwriting strategy within the area of responsibility, ensuring consistently high underwriting quality standards
- Monitor and manage the performance of assigned markets and portfolios, including treaty maintenance, reporting, and forecasting
- Lead underwriting-related discussions in client and broker meetings, supporting the execution of client strategies and identifying new business opportunities
- Represent Casualty underwriting topics at industry events, and contribute to internal initiatives, projects, and working groups
- Provide technical training, coach junior colleagues, design and deliver workshops, and support knowledge transfer across teams and business units
- Support the manager in fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture, as well as strong cross-functional partnerships
Your Profile
- University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics; professional insurance or actuarial qualifications preferred
- Significant experience in Casualty Treaty Underwriting (typically around 10+ years), with strong expertise in Motor and Liability products, and a good understanding of accounting, finance, and regulatory frameworks across SEA markets
- Strong actuarial pricing expertise, including proficiency in underwriting and pricing tools, along with advanced analytical skills and strong problem-solving capability
- Solid knowledge of reinsurance contract terms and conditions
- Experience in developing non-traditional or innovative insurance solutions, with proven project experience and the ability to apply technical knowledge to practical underwriting challenges
- Collaborative and self-motivated team player who demonstrates accountability and a proactive, solution-oriented approach, with high learning agility and a continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to take on additional responsibilities
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the interpersonal ability to work effectively across teams and markets
- Fluent in spoken and written business English; additional Asian language skills are advantageous
