Role Overview

The Database Consultant is responsible for the full lifecycle management of enterprise database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, availability and reliability across on-premises and cloud environments. The role supports data-driven initiatives, secure data access, data integrity, cloud migration and data governance activities.

Key Responsibilities

· Install, configure, upgrade, patch and maintain database servers and instances.

· Monitor database performance and ensure high availability, reliability and operational excellence.

· Diagnose and resolve database incidents, errors, performance issues and service disruptions.

· Manage database access controls, user privileges, standards and data integrity.

· Design database architecture, develop SQL scripts, conduct performance tuning and optimise workloads.

· Perform database backup, restoration, recovery, disaster recovery and business continuity activities.

· Handle service requests covering data queries, database cloning, deployments, configuration extraction and data scrambling.

· Administer and support data scrambling and masking solutions for non-production environments.

· Support database migration and modernisation initiatives from on-premises environments to AWS and Azure Singapore Government Commercial Cloud (GCC).

· Manage and support cloud database services such as AWS RDS, AWS Redshift, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and other relevant services.

· Ensure seamless integration and connectivity between databases, applications and enterprise platforms.

· Implement database security controls, encryption, auditing, vulnerability remediation and security best practices.

· Support compliance with organisational, regulatory, audit and security governance requirements.

· Develop and maintain database operational procedures, standards, runbooks and technical documentation.

· Provide technical consultancy to stakeholders on database technologies, cloud adoption, data security and data management.

· Stay current with emerging database technologies, cloud services, security practices and industry standards.

Minimum Requirements

· Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.

· Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience managing enterprise relational database management systems in production environments, including Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.

· At least 6 months of hands-on experience supporting databases hosted in AWS and Azure Singapore Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) environments.

· At least 6 months of hands-on experience in data masking or data scrambling or an equivalent data obfuscation solution.

· Hands-on execution of at least 10 database refresh/cloning activities and 3 migration activities within the last 2 years.

· Hands-on implementation or administration of at least 3 of the following controls: Database auditing, TDE or equivalent encryption, Privileged access controls, Vulnerability assessment remediation, Security hardening.

· Developed and maintained at least 3 automation scripts/tools for database administration, monitoring, restoration, deployment or housekeeping activities.

· Supported at least 3 Priority 1 / Severity 1 production incidents and produced RCA reports with corrective actions.

· Produced at least 2 operational documents (SOP, DR, Architecture, Runbook, Technical Design) and conducted stakeholder presentations or technical briefings.

· Minimum 6 months hands-on experience or supporting a Database Activity Monitoring (DAM) solution, such as Imperva.

· Participated in at least one cloud migration project involving AWS, Azure, Singapore Government Commercial Cloud (GCC), RDS, Azure SQL or hybrid database architecture.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.
