About this job

We are seeking an experienced underwriting professional to drive the growth and profitability of our Energy & Construction / Engineering portfolio, with a particular focus on Renewable Energy, across our business units in Asia. This role will provide technical leadership, underwriting expertise, business development support, and capability building, playing a key role in strengthening underwriting standards, enhancing technical capabilities and supporting sustainable and profitable growth across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the business performance and underwriting results of the Energy & Construction / Engineering portfolio across our business units in Asia

  • Evaluate underwriting referrals and provide technical underwriting recommendations and approvals within delegated authority

  • Support the management of Renewable Energy business arrangements, including collaboration with managing general agents (MGAs) and relevant stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, intermediaries, reinsurers, insureds and other business partners to support business growth and expand market opportunities

  • Partner with business units to achieve sustainable and profitable growth objectives

  • Support product development initiatives and provide underwriting guidance for complex risks, major accounts, and claims matters

  • Provide technical expertise relating to risk engineering, underwriting best practices, and portfolio management

  • Strengthen Energy & Construction / Engineering underwriting capabilities across our business units in Asia through coaching, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives

  • Support the continuous enhancement of underwriting systems, processes, and workflows to deliver high service standards and operational efficiency

  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic business objectives and regional underwriting initiatives

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and governance standards

Requirements

  • Degree holder in Engineering or a related discipline

  • Professional insurance qualification such as ACII or equivalent

  • At least 10 years of experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, including underwriting experience within Energy & Construction / Engineering and Renewable Energy segments

  • Strong understanding of Energy & Construction / Engineering and Renewable Energy risk exposures, underwriting principles, policy coverages, and risk assessment methodologies

  • Proven experience in business development, portfolio management, and relationship management within commercial insurance lines

  • Experience in risk engineering, claims handling and technical insurance advisory work

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions

  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders across multiple markets and cultures

  • Strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to identify and execute growth opportunities

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing underwriting talent to strengthen technical capabilities across the organisation

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional integrity, ethical conduct, and compliance with regulatory and corporate governance requirements
