About ATI
ATI is a global optical connectivity company developing high-speed connectivity solutions for AI and hyperscale data centre infrastructure. Our portfolio spans high-speed optical transceivers, silicon photonics and advanced optical connectivity technologies supporting the industry's transition toward 800G, 1.6T and future generations of data centre interconnect.
With R&D capabilities across Wuhan Optics Valley, Silicon Valley and Singapore, and manufacturing operations in China and Thailand, ATI brings together photonics, electronics and high-volume manufacturing capabilities to serve leading global technology customers.
We are now building our next-generation R&D team in Singapore, with a focus on silicon photonics and advanced optical interconnect technologies. This is an opportunity to join the team at an early stage and help shape ATI's technology platforms for the next generation of AI infrastructure.
About the Role
This role is responsible for the physical implementation and manufacturability of ATI's silicon photonic integrated circuits. You will work from device and circuit requirements through PIC layout, design-rule verification and tape-out, while serving as a key technical interface with external wafer foundries on PDK integration, custom device development and process optimization.
The role bridges PIC design and semiconductor manufacturing, helping translate silicon photonics concepts into robust, fabrication-ready designs that can ultimately be scaled into production.
Core Responsibilities
1. PDK Evaluation & Design Environment Integration
- Review and evaluate silicon photonics Process Design Kits (PDKs) provided by foundry partners.
- Adapt, validate and integrate foundry PDKs into ATI's PIC design and EDA environment.
- Verify design rules, device models and other relevant PDK components required for reliable design and tape-out.
- Work with internal designers to ensure correct and consistent use of foundry design rules and process capabilities.
2. Silicon Photonics PIC Layout & Tape-Out
- Develop and optimize silicon photonics chip layouts based on device, circuit and product requirements.
- Perform design-rule checks and other required physical verification prior to tape-out.
- Conduct final layout reviews to ensure compliance with both device-performance requirements and foundry manufacturing rules.
- Prepare and verify final tape-out data and documentation.
3. Foundry & Process Interface
- Serve as a technical interface with wafer foundries on PDK, device and process-related matters.
- Translate product and device requirements into requests for custom device development, process modifications or parameter optimization.
- Track foundry actions and technical feedback through implementation, verification and closure.
- Support resolution of design-rule, manufacturability and process-related issues identified during tape-out and fabrication.
4. Design-for-Manufacturability & Process Improvement
- Work with architecture, device design and test engineers to incorporate fabrication results and test data into subsequent design iterations.
- Identify opportunities to improve design robustness, process tolerance, yield and manufacturability.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of ATI's silicon photonics design methodology and foundry interface.
What We Are Looking For
Education
- Master's degree or above in Photonics, Optoelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Applied Physics or a related discipline.
Technical Competencies
- Good understanding of silicon photonic devices and PIC design fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience in silicon photonics chip design and/or physical layout.
- Familiarity with silicon photonics PDKs and relevant EDA/design tools.
- Understanding of PIC tape-out, design-rule verification and semiconductor fabrication processes.
- Ability to interpret foundry design rules and translate device requirements into manufacturable layouts.
- Familiarity with common silicon photonic building blocks such as modulators, photodetectors, waveguides, couplers and passive optical structures is advantageous.
Experience
- Hands-on experience in silicon photonic device design, PIC layout, PDK development/integration or foundry process interface.
- 2+ years of relevant industry or research experience preferred.
- Previous experience taking a silicon photonics design through tape-out is highly desirable.
