Faststream is delighted to be representing a leading international law firm in the appointment of an Associate to join its highly regarded Shipping Disputes team in Singapore.
About the Firm
The firm has a long-established presence in Singapore and is recognised as a premier international practice across the shipping and offshore sectors. Its Singapore team advises major international clients on dispute resolution, arbitration and litigation, casualty response and investigation, cross-border transactions and financing.
The firm has built a strong English law shipping and offshore practice in Singapore, with a broad range of contentious work covering shipping, commodities and international trade.
The Role
The successful candidate will join the Singapore Shipping Disputes team and work across a broad range of dry and wet shipping matters, as well as commodities and international trade disputes.
You will have the opportunity to work on complex, high-value matters alongside experienced practitioners and leading international clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with shipping, international trade and commodities disputes, including arbitration and litigation.
- Handle both dry and wet shipping matters, including casualty response and investigations.
- Conduct legal research and provide commercially focused legal analysis.
- Assist with drafting pleadings, submissions, correspondence and other legal documents.
- Support case preparation and manage matters efficiently.
- Work closely with partners, senior lawyers, clients, experts and other stakeholders.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant shipping, trade and dispute resolution law.
- Manage multiple matters while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
Requirements
- England & Wales qualified solicitor.
- 4-5 years' PQE with relevant experience gained in an international law firm.
- Strong experience in shipping and/or international trade disputes.
- Experience across a broad range of shipping disputes.
- Exposure to wet shipping matters, casualties or casualty investigations is highly desirable.
- Strong legal research, analytical and drafting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and practical case-handling abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- A collaborative, personable and client-focused approach.
