Technical API Analyst

Job Summary

The API Analyst defines, governs, and optimizes enterprise APIs to support system integration and digital services. They ensure APIs have clear data definitions, consistent standards, and align with business requirements. The API Analyst collaborates with business teams, integration engineers, and platform teams to make sure APIs are reliable, scalable, and reusable throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for internal teams to resolve API-related functional questions and provide integration guidance
• Analyze API usage scenarios to enable effective integration with available APIs
• Investigate and resolve API response, data definition, and integration issues by coordinating with development teams
• Maintain and update API documentation and usage guidelines to ensure clarity and accessibility
• Define API data models, input/output structures, and field definitions to support consistent API design
• Collaborate with developers to design APIs that comply with enterprise integration standards
• Review API specifications to ensure consistency and alignment across services
• Support creation and maintenance of API documentation and interface specifications
• Contribute to API lifecycle management, including versioning and enhancement planning to keep APIs current and effective
• Monitor API usage trends and analyze consumption patterns across internal systems and external partners to identify improvement opportunities
• Support API governance by managing version control, lifecycle processes, and compliance with enterprise security policies
• Maintain API catalog and documentation standards to enhance discoverability and usability
• Ensure APIs adhere to security concepts including authentication, authorization, and token management

Required competencies and certifications

• Apply strong understanding of RESTful API design principles to develop scalable and reusable APIs
• Utilize proficiency in C# or backend development concepts to support API development and troubleshooting
• Employ analytical thinking, documentation, and communication skills to clearly convey API functionalities and issues
• Manage API code and documentation using Git-based version control systems (GitHub / Azure DevOps)
• Develop relational database models to support API data modeling and integration
• Define and document APIs using API specifications such as OpenAPI / Swagger
• Model API data accurately using JSON data structures
• Govern and monitor APIs using API management platforms (e.g., Azure API Management)
• Implement API security concepts including authentication, authorization, and token management to protect API access
• Apply API lifecycle management and versioning strategies to maintain API quality and compatibility
• Use automated testing tools to verify code quality and API functionality
