Vessel Operator - Dry Bulk

Job Description & Requirements

We have partnered with a Ship Owner to hire a Vessel Operator (Dry Bulk) with minimally 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Chartering and Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of dry bulk vessels, including coordinating chartering activities, negotiating freight rates, and ensuring timely vessel fixtures.
2. Voyage Management: Monitor and manage vessel voyages, ensuring compliance with charter party agreements, loading and discharge operations, and voyage optimization to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
3. Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with ship owners, charterers, brokers, port agents, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of operations and address any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
4. Documentation and Compliance: Ensure all relevant documentation, including voyage instructions, laytime calculations, and demurrage claims, are accurately prepared and processed in accordance with industry regulations and company policies.
5. Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, freight rates, and industry developments affecting the dry bulk shipping sector, providing insights and recommendations to optimize vessel performance and commercial opportunities.
6. Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks associated with vessel operations, such as weather conditions, port congestion, and regulatory changes, and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
7. Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze vessel performance metrics, including fuel consumption, speed, and cargo handling efficiency, to identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or related field.
2. 2-4 years of experience in vessel operations, with a focus on dry bulk shipping.
3. Strong understanding of dry bulk chartering principles, including fixture negotiations, laytime calculations, and voyage optimization.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
5. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools, such as chartering platforms, voyage optimization software, and MS Office suite.
6. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret market data, analyze performance metrics, and make data-driven decisions.
7. Proven ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
8. Knowledge of international maritime regulations, industry best practices, and risk management principles.
