About The Opportunity

First Konnection is recruiting a founding Academic Head for a new premium Chinese tuition centre preparing to launch in Singapore.

The centre specialises in Primary 4 to Primary 6 Standard Chinese and Higher Chinese, with classes capped at 6 students. Its curriculum focuses on specific PSLE examination techniques, personalised feedback and structured practice to help students strengthen their skills and progress beyond a results plateau.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead curriculum development, establish academic standards and develop the teaching team. You will have scope to shape academic decisions within the centre’s agreed framework and build systems that support its planned expansion.

AI-assisted curriculum drafts are already available for expert review and refinement. The planned learning approach also includes personalised vocabulary revision based on each student’s recurring errors, structured error analysis and AI-assisted monthly progress reports. Your academic expertise will guide the quality, accuracy and classroom suitability of the materials.

The role focuses on curriculum, teacher development and academic quality. There are no sales, admissions or general centre operations responsibilities. Some classroom teaching may be required during approximately the first 3 months after opening to inform curriculum refinement. The longer-term focus is academic leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Refine and finalise the complete Primary 4 to Primary 6 Standard Chinese and Higher Chinese curriculum, including worksheets, teaching slides, model answers and assessments.

  • Personally develop or materially rebuild original learning materials, with appropriate differentiation by level and stream.

  • Develop modules covering composition, comprehension, oral communication, vocabulary and language application, with clear examination skills and answering techniques.

  • Review AI-assisted materials for written Chinese accuracy, syllabus alignment, vocabulary suitability, question design, difficulty and marking consistency.

  • Establish lesson templates, assessment rubrics, marking standards and curriculum quality checks.

  • Develop personalised revision and error analysis methods that help teachers identify recurring mistakes, explain their causes and guide improvement.

  • Use assessment results, student error patterns and classroom feedback to improve learning materials and inform academic progress reporting.

  • Develop the academic calendar, makeup lesson curriculum and school holiday academic programmes.

  • Create teacher onboarding resources and provide ongoing training, coaching and professional development.

  • Conduct weekly lesson observations and monthly teacher performance reviews to maintain consistent teaching quality.

  • Update curriculum materials in response to MOE syllabus changes, PSLE requirements and relevant feedback.

  • Undertake selected teaching duties during the initial launch period and use classroom observations to refine the curriculum.

  • Maintain consistent academic standards as the centre grows.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of direct experience teaching Singapore Primary 4 to Primary 6 Chinese, covering Standard Chinese and/or Higher Chinese.

  • Strong knowledge of the Singapore MOE Chinese syllabus, PSLE assessment requirements, examination techniques and differences between levels and streams.

  • Proven personal ownership of original Chinese curriculum materials, assessments or teaching frameworks. Experience limited to delivering existing materials is insufficient.

  • Publication-standard written Chinese, required to write, edit and approve model compositions, comprehension passages, assessment questions, answer keys and error analyses.

  • Strong spoken Mandarin, required to teach Chinese and coach teachers in Chinese lesson delivery.

  • A degree with Chinese as a major subject, or an equivalent relevant qualification.

  • Ability to meet the applicable MOE teacher registration requirements, including Form RT.

  • Demonstrated experience training, observing, coaching or leading teachers and maintaining academic quality.

  • Comfortable critically reviewing AI-assisted educational content. Coding experience is not required.

  • Comfortable joining a business preparing to open, working closely with its founders and delivering agreed curriculum milestones and academic outcomes.

  • Willingness to undertake selected classroom teaching duties during the initial launch period.

Relevant backgrounds may include MOE Chinese HODs, senior teachers, curriculum specialists, senior curriculum writers, assessment-book authors and independent tutors who can demonstrate substantial original curriculum ownership and teacher coaching experience.

Salary And Additional Rewards

  • SGD 10,000 monthly basic salary from the first day of employment, including the pre-opening period.

  • Up to SGD 20,000 in pre-opening curriculum milestone bonuses.

  • Quarterly profit sharing based on 10% of distributable net profit, subject to agreed terms.

  • Potential participation in a future business sale, subject to agreed terms and a qualifying sale.

  • No personal capital investment required.

Milestone bonuses, profit sharing and exit participation are conditional benefits separate from the monthly basic salary. Eligibility, calculation and payment conditions will be governed by the formal written terms.

How To Apply

Apply with your updated resume, highlighting:

  • The Singapore primary levels and Chinese streams you have taught or led.

  • Your personal contribution to original curriculum development.

  • Your experience coaching teachers and maintaining academic standards.

  • Your expected basic salary and notice period.

Shortlisted candidates should be prepared to discuss 2 curriculum or assessment projects they personally designed or materially rebuilt.

All applications will be handled in confidence.
