Job Description
The FA Technician (CMM) is responsible for supporting incoming quality control, First Article Inspection (FAI), dimensional measurement activities, and supplier quality activities to ensure all supplied materials and components comply with Fu Yu Corporation’s quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations. The role also supports continuous improvement activities, documentation control, and quality reporting.
1. Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Testing
· Conduct First Article Inspection (FAI) for new suppliers, new tooling, revised components, and other samples as required
· Support incoming inspection of purchased parts, FAI samples, and critical components according to engineering drawings and specifications
· Perform Incoming, In-Process, and Outgoing inspections in accordance with inspection plans and control plans
· Support functional testing as specified in inspection plans or requested by customers
· Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and requirements for inspection activities
· Conduct measurement using appropriate equipment (e.g. CMM, vision system, hand tools)
Measurement & Data Analysis
· Perform precise dimensional measurement using CMM, Smart Scope / vision system, FARO, Keyence LMX, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other appropriate equipment
· Operate CMM programs and support basic CMM program setup or modification where trained and authorized
· Review inspection reports and verify compliance with customer and internal quality requirements
· Prepare and maintain FAI / measurement reports and highlight deviations or non-conformances promptly
· Tabulate and record inspection and measurement results accurately
· Perform basic analysis of measurement data (e.g. trend analysis, SPC where applicable)
· Highlight abnormal results and escalate issues to relevant personnel
Non-Conformance Control
· Identify, segregate, and label non-conforming products
· Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) and support containment actions
· Assist in investigation and verification of corrective actions
Equipment & Calibration Management
· Monitor calibration status of measuring equipment and arrange calibration (including sourcing quotations)
· Upload and maintain calibration records in systems (e.g. ETQ or equivalent)
· Maintain and update measuring equipment master list
· Perform routine verification checks to ensure equipment is fit for use
Documentation & Compliance
· Upload and manage quality data, reports, and records in ETQ, SharePoint, or related quality systems
· Prepare periodic quality reports related to FAI, measurement trends, rejects, and supplier performance as assigned
· Ensure all quality documents, records, and forms are properly maintained and controlled
· Ensure traceability of inspection status and records
· Comply with requirements of ISO 9001, ISO13485, IATF 16949, etc (where applicable)
Support & Coordination
· Support Line Reject Note (LRN), RMA, RAF, and corrective action follow-up activities when required
· Coordinate with suppliers, production, engineering, and other stakeholders on quality issues and improvement actions
· Assist Engineers in report preparation and quality-related documentation
· Support internal and external audits (customer / certification audits)
· Coordinate with production and other departments on quality issues
Continuous Improvement
· Participate in quality improvement activities (e.g. Kaizen, 5S)
· Provide feedback on recurring defects and measurement issues
· Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions
General Duties
· Perform general maintenance and housekeeping of measurement equipment
· Ensure proper handling and storage of inspection tools and gauges
· Perform other duties as assigned by superior
· Able to work night shift when required
Working Conditions
· Work is performed in both office (desk-based) and production floor environments
· Exposure to manufacturing conditions such as noise, moving machinery, and temperature variations
· Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when on production floor
· May require prolonged standing during inspection and measurement activities
· May be required to work night shift, overtime, or extended hours based on operational needs
2. JOB SPECIFICATION
Educational Level
· Minimum GCE ‘O’ / ‘A’ Level, NTC (National Technical Certificate), Nitec / Higher Nitec, or equivalent technical qualification
· Diploma or technical qualification in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field is an advantage
Experience
· 1–3 years of relevant working experience in a Quality function, depending on job grade, preferably within a Plastic Injection Molding or manufacturing environment
· Experience in FAI, CMM measurement, incoming inspection, and quality control processes is preferred
Language Proficiency
· Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English
· Bilingual in English and Chinese or Malay to support cross-functional communication
Special License
Not required
Technical Competencies (Optional but Recommended)
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; knowledge of GD&T is an advantage
· Hands-on experience with CMM / vision system operation and common measurement tools (e.g. caliper, micrometer); experience with FARO and Keyence LMX is an advantage
· Basic knowledge of SPC, MSA, and quality tools
· Familiar with quality standards such as ISO 9001 / IATF 16949
Knowledge
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Quality Management Systems (e.g. ETQ or equivalent)
· Strong knowledge of measurement equipment (e.g. CMM, Smart Scope / vision systems, FARO, Keyence LMX, calipers, micrometers)
· Understanding of statistical quality control techniques (e.g. SPC, control charts, basic data analysis)
· Familiar with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
· Basic knowledge of calibration practices and measurement system concepts (e.g. MSA)
