Legal and Risk Associate (1-year contract)

Job Description & Requirements

Meranti Power Pte Ltd (MP), a fully owned subsidiary of the Energy Market Authority, manages and operates a new power generation station in Jurong Island. We are seeking committed individuals for the position of Legal and Risk Associate (1-year contract). The scope and requirements for this position are as follows:

Job Responsibilities

This supportive, hybrid role carries an equal focus on assisting the team with day-to-day legal tasks as well as Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), regulatory compliance (RegCo), and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation. Working closely alongside and under the guidance of lead staffs, the candidate will assist internal business units, coordinate with external consultants, and support engagement with regulatory bodies within the power sector to streamline processes and maintain high governance standards.

Legal Support

• Assist the Senior Legal Counsel in providing practical, solution-oriented support and advisory assistance to internal business functions, including HR, Administration, Procurement, and Operations
• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and managing commercial agreements, corporate documents, and other legal documentation under staff supervision
• Conduct legal research on statutory developments and assist the team in developing, maintaining, and updating contract templates, legal guidelines, and standard operating procedures
• Help coordinate administrative liaison and workflows with external legal counsel and legal consultants on designated projects and general legal matters as required

ERM, RegCo, and ESG Support

• Assist the Principal Manager in supporting the execution, monitoring, and continuous enhancement of MP’s ERM framework
• Support internal teams and lead staff in coordinating with external regulatory bodies and appointed consultants on RegCo and ESG matters, helping to schedule, facilitate, and track discussions and implementation actions
• Assist in monitoring risk mitigation workflows, tracking key risk indicators, and following up with departmental stakeholders on identified risks and corrective actions
• Help prepare initial drafts of accurate and timely risk, compliance, and management reports for internal reporting and governance review
• Support the team during internal and external audit activities, including collating documentation and tracking follow-up actions resulting from audit findings

Job Requirements:

• Degree in Law, or Risk Management, or Compliance, or a related discipline
• 2–3 years of relevant experience with a law firm, in-house legal team, or corporate risk/compliance function
• Experience or familiarity with the power, energy, or infrastructure sector is an advantage
• Admission to the Singapore Bar (or an equivalent common law jurisdiction) is an advantage but not strictly required.
• Solid grounding in commercial contract law principles and core risk management frameworks is an advantage.
• Familiarity with local power sector regulations, energy market frameworks, or ESG metrics will be an advantage.
• Strong diplomatic, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English with a focus of an ability to convey complex information plainly.
• Willing to work in Jurong Island.
