About this job

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure suitable cargo opportunities for the tanker fleet.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with charterers, traders, brokers and other industry partners.
  • Negotiate and conclude voyage charters, time charter trips and period fixtures.
  • Review and negotiate Charter Party terms, conditions and rider clauses.
  • Prepare voyage estimates and assess freight income, bunker costs, port expenses and overall profitability.
  • Monitor tanker-market developments, freight rates and competitor activity.
  • Manage post-fixture operations from fixture confirmation through to voyage completion.
  • Coordinate with Masters, agents, terminals, charterers and service providers.
  • Monitor vessel schedules, performance, bunker consumption and Charter Party compliance.
  • Oversee voyage documentation, including Bills of Lading, Notices of Readiness, Statements of Facts and Letters of Indemnity.
  • Review laytime calculations and manage demurrage, despatch and other commercial claims.
  • Prepare voyage profit-and-loss reports and commercial performance updates.
  • Resolve operational and commercial issues promptly while protecting the owner’s interests.
  • Provide regular market intelligence and recommendations to senior management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in tanker chartering, shipbroking, commercial operations or vessel operations.
  • Candidates from shipowners, ship operators or tanker-broking companies are welcome.
  • Good understanding of the tanker market, preferably involving clean or dirty petroleum products.
  • Strong knowledge of Charter Parties, voyage estimation and post-fixture operations.
  • Established relationships with charterers, traders, brokers or shipowners would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial judgement, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Able to work independently and manage both chartering and operational responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant shipping or voyage-management systems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
