Shipowner's Representative (MPP/Heavy-Lift Vessels)

Salling Search is currently recruiting for a Shipowner's Representative for a ship management company specializing in MPP/heavy-lift vessels. This role acts as the key liaison between the shipowner, ship management company, charterers, ports and service providers, safeguarding the shipowner's interests across technical, operational, safety and commercial matters.

Responsibilities

• Represent the shipowner in dealings with the ship management company and monitor its performance under technical, crewing, safety and management agreements
• Review vessel technical reports, inspection findings, maintenance plans, repair proposals and operational performance, ensuring issues are properly followed up and closed
• Monitor vessel machinery condition, PMS implementation, statutory/class certification and overall asset condition
• Review and control vessel OPEX, repair costs, spare parts purchases and third-party service expenses, including assessment of unbudgeted expenditure and warranty claims
• Participate in and oversee dry-docking, major repairs, equipment upgrades, vessel takeover and delivery projects
• Ensure continued compliance with ISM, ISPS, MLC, Flag State, Port State Control, Class and relevant industry requirements
• Conduct vessel visits, internal audits, safety inspections and operational assessments, and participate in accident/incident investigations and corrective actions
• Oversee operational requirements specific to MPP/heavy-lift vessels, including heavy-lift operations, deck/project cargo, cargo securing, cargo hold suitability and cargo-related safety
• Liaise with charterers, customers, terminals, ports and service providers on vessel operational and contractual matters
• Monitor relevant charter-party requirements, vessel performance, off-hire matters, terminal feedback and Letters of Protest
• Participate in the selection, briefing and performance monitoring of senior officers, particularly Masters and Chief Engineers
• Monitor crew training, welfare, competency and compliance with STCW and MLC requirements
• Provide regular operational and technical reports to the Technical Head/shipowner covering vessel condition, repairs, safety, crew matters, client feedback, inspections and upcoming activities
• Act as the shipowner's technical representative for insurance claims, P&I matters and other technical/legal proceedings when required

Requirements

• Master Mariner (FG) or Chief Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency preferred
• Relevant seagoing experience on MPP, heavy-lift or multipurpose vessels
• Minimum 2-3 years of shore-based experience as a Marine Superintendent, Technical Superintendent, Shipowner's Representative or similar position
• Strong knowledge of ISM, ISPS, MLC, PSC, vetting, PMS and SMS systems
• Good understanding of vessel maintenance, dry-docking, repair management, budgeting and OPEX control
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to independently represent the shipowner's interests
• Excellent spoken and written English
• Willing and able to undertake frequent overseas travel and vessel visits, potentially up to approximately 200 days per year depending on operational requirements
