Data Center Customer Design Manager

Job Summary
You will manage Data Centre Design projects to meet reliability, availability, efficiency, sustainability, regulatory, safety, cost, and speed-to-market targets.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple greenfield and fit-out Data Centre Design projects concurrently, ensuring completion within budget and schedule
- Develop design briefs and key metrics to maintain consistent design quality across regional metro projects
- Hold consultants and professional teams accountable for delivering project design intent and outcomes
- Lead a consortium of consultants including town planners, architects, civil & structural engineers, mechanical & electrical engineers, environmental and LEED consultants, and geotechnical engineers
- Collaborate with suppliers and designers to implement safety, efficiency, and sustainability improvements
- Conduct site visits to verify construction methods, site coordination, and equipment performance meet design criteria and maintain reliability and maintainability standards
- Ensure design compliance and timely project handover to customers
- Standardize design processes and manage customer design variations effectively
- Make advanced design decisions and secure customer buy-in for design solutions
- Stay updated on customers’ latest technical directions and support technical RFP processes
- Qualify technical compliance and deviations with customers, including Service Level Agreements and compliance exceptions
- Initiate design improvements based on lessons learned from projects
- Oversee consistent project design delivery and construction quality
- Propose innovative solutions to accelerate design delivery and speed to market
Required competencies and certifications
- Proven design experience managing projects across regional metros
- Professional Engineer or Registered Architect with practicing certifications preferred
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in design consultancy, including at least 5 years in a principal engineer role
- Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and influencing skills
- Experience with Design Bid Build, Design & Build, and other design delivery methodologies
- Flexibility to relocate and travel for business needs
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Experience in hyperscale Data Centre design
