The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 12-month contract at the Office for Research.
Project Title: Optimising Learning in Human-AI Collaboration (HAC) for Intelligence Augmentation (IA)
Project Introduction:
Generative AI has become an intellectual partner and learning companion of humans. This project advocates human-centered human-AI collaboration for intelligence augmentation, which emphasises AI to augment human intelligence and capabilities.
It aims to utilise the interdisciplinary expertise of learning sciences, science of learning, AI in education, and learning analytics to understand and optimise students’ learning, critical thinking, and engagement.
Requirements:
Master’s degree in educational technology, learning sciences, computer science, or a closely related field.
Knowledge and experiences in prompt engineering, together with sufficient pedagogical understanding to tailor AI prompts for teaching and learning.
Experience of integrating and configuring AI-driven features within learning management systems.
Be competent in research methods, including the design of valid survey questionnaires and educational experiments.
Experience in operating fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy), EEG (electroencephalography), and eye-tracking equipment, and designing sound data-collection protocols and to process raw signals into interpretable metrics such as inter-brain synchrony, fixation duration, and saccades.
Proficiency in relevant analysis tools and programming.
Knowledge and experience in writing research reports and academic reports and papers.
Be meticulous, self-motivated, and able to work across disciplines.
Strong written and spoken communication in English
Ability to collaborate within a research team and multi-tasking
Responsibilities:
Fine-tune Artificial Intelligence (AI) prompts for teaching and learning.
Deploy AI functions on digital learning platforms and adapt those AI functions for different teaching and learning purposes.
Design survey questionnaires to investigate university students’ human-AI collaboration literacy, students’ perceptions and experiences of HAC and the impact of HAC on their immediate and longer-term cognitive engagement.
Collect and analyse fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy), EEG (electroencephalography), and eye-tracking data.
Write research reports and papers.
