PASTRY COOK (RESTAURANT)

Job Overview

The Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing and producing pastries, desserts, cakes, and other bakery products according to established recipes and quality standards. The role involves ensuring consistent taste, texture, presentation, hygiene, and efficient pastry kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities

Pastry Preparation & Production

- Prepare pastries, desserts, cakes, and other bakery products according to established recipes and standards.

- Prepare ingredients and mise en place required for daily pastry production.

- Measure and weigh ingredients accurately to ensure consistency.

- Assist with mixing, baking, assembling, filling, glazing, and decorating pastry products.

- Monitor baking and preparation processes to ensure proper quality and consistency.

- Ensure products are prepared and presented according to the restaurant's standards.

- Assist in preparing daily pastry and dessert requirements based on production schedules.

Food Quality & Storage

- Maintain consistency in taste, texture, appearance, and portion size.

- Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients and finished products.

- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.

- Report any quality issues or shortages of ingredients to the Pastry Chef or supervisor.

- Minimize food wastage and use ingredients responsibly.

Kitchen Support

- Assist the Pastry Chef and Assistant Pastry Chef in daily pastry kitchen operations.

- Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and service.

- Maintain adequate mise en place throughout the service period.

- Assist with receiving and organizing pastry ingredients and supplies when required.

- Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout the working shift.

Hygiene & Safety

- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, food hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness.

- Follow food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.

- Clean and sanitize workstations, utensils, equipment, and storage areas regularly.

- Handle ingredients and equipment safely and responsibly.

- Report any equipment faults, safety concerns, or hygiene issues promptly.

Requirements

- Minimum 2 years of professional pastry or bakery experience.

- Previous experience as a Pastry Cook, Commis Pastry, Bakery Cook, or similar role preferred.

- Good knowledge of basic pastry preparation and baking techniques.

- Knowledge of cakes, pastries, desserts, breads, and basic confectionery preparation.

- Ability to accurately follow recipes and production instructions.

- Good attention to detail, particularly in baking and product presentation.

- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

- Good communication and teamwork skills.

- Willingness to learn new pastry techniques and improve skills.
