Role Overview
This position is responsible for supporting and administering the organisation's Microsoft 365 cloud environment and associated IT infrastructure. The role balances hands-on technical work with day-to-day user support, helping ensure systems stay secure, stable, and performing well — for staff working in the office, remotely, and on board vessels.
Core Duties
- Design, build, and roll out Microsoft 365 solutions tailored to the organisation's operational needs, working largely independently
- Manage the Microsoft 365 environment to keep services available, secure, and running smoothly
- Set up and maintain Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender in line with company policy
- Handle first- and second-tier helpdesk requests, including remote troubleshooting
- Take part in an after-hours/weekend on-call rotation as needed
- Track system performance, running regular reviews and tests to catch issues early
- Plan hardware rollouts, replacements, and lifecycle upgrades
- Carry out and confirm system updates, backups, and recovery processes
- Work with colleagues across the business to enhance systems and the overall user experience
- Manage IT setup and teardown for staff joining or leaving the organisation
- Keep documentation current — configuration records, SOPs, process notes, and user guides
- Deliver technical support in coordination with internal teams and outside vendors, both on land and aboard vessels
- Be available to travel internationally on short notice for on-site support
- Assist with IT purchasing — sourcing suppliers, comparing quotes, and tracking orders
- Maintain up-to-date records of hardware and software assets
- Complete routine IT operational checks on a daily, monthly, and annual basis
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years hands-on experience managing Microsoft 365 environments
- 3+ years providing tiered (L1/L2) IT support within a mid-to-large organisation
- Familiarity with Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- 2+ years of exposure to network and firewall support in a small-to-mid-sized business setting
- Open to occasional after-hours standby duty and overseas travel when needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft 365 Administrator certification (or equivalent)
- Microsoft Azure Administrator certification (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting IT systems in maritime or offshore settings
