About this job

GYM OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE

Full-Time | Homeground Gym Bishan
Starting Salary: $2,800–$3,500/month + Performance Incentives
Progression towards $5,000–$6,000/month for a high-performing employee — potentially achievable within 1.5 years

Hi, I’m Jon, the owner of Homeground Gym & PT Bishan.

I'm looking for one highly capable person to work very closely with me on a daily basis to make sure we run an excellent business — from customer service and member experience, to sales follow-ups, operations, systems and all the small details that keep the gym running properly.

This is not a role where I expect you to remain as a Customer Service or Operations Executive forever.

I have a progression planned for the right person that can eventually bring your compensation to around $5,000–$6,000/month as your responsibilities and contribution grow.

For someone genuinely good, I believe this can potentially be achieved within approximately 1.5 years.

It won't happen simply because you've stayed for 1.5 years. You'll have to earn it.

But if you're capable, hungry and can gradually take bigger responsibilities off my shoulders, I want to reward you accordingly.

Who I'm Looking For

I'm quite particular about the person I'm looking for.

You should:

  • Be a polytechnic or university graduate

  • Have at least 2 years of full-time working experience

  • Be calm and collected, even when multiple things are happening at the same time

  • Be able to listen carefully and follow instructions properly

  • At the same time, be able to think several steps ahead instead of completing one task and waiting for me to tell you what to do next

  • Be organised, reliable and responsible

  • Communicate well with customers and colleagues

  • Be comfortable taking ownership of things under your care

  • Be hungry to learn, improve and succeed

  • Want a job where there is a clear path towards greater responsibility and higher income

  • Want to work closely with a business owner and learn how a growing business is actually operated

  • Be interested in building something with us for the next few years

You do not need previous experience working in a gym.

I'd rather hire someone capable, responsible and hungry to learn than someone who simply has fitness industry experience.

One of the biggest things I'm looking for is this:

If I teach you something once, I want to eventually be able to trust you to handle it without constantly checking on you.

And as you become more experienced, I want you to be able to spot what needs to be done, think several steps ahead and solve problems before they reach me.

You'll Work Very Closely With Me

This is an important part of the role.

You'll be working very closely with me, Jon, on a daily basis to ensure business excellence.

Especially at the beginning, I'll personally train you on how we operate, how we handle customers and prospects, how we follow up with leads, and how I expect different situations to be handled.

You'll gradually learn how I think about the business and the standards I expect.

In return, what I eventually want is someone I can rely on.

If something isn't right, you notice it.

If something needs to happen tomorrow, you're already preparing for it today.

If I give you responsibility for something, I shouldn't need to constantly remind you about it.

The long-term goal is for the two of us to work closely together to ensure business excellence on a daily basis, while progressively reducing the number of things that require my direct involvement.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be predominantly based at:

Homeground Gym Bishan
239 Bishan St. 22

A large part of your role initially will revolve around Customer Service and gym operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Welcoming and assisting members

  • Responding to WhatsApp enquiries

  • Answering questions about gym memberships and Personal Training

  • Following up with new leads and prospects

  • Conducting gym tours

  • Helping interested prospects get started

  • Coordinating Personal Training trials between prospects and our trainers

  • Following up with prospects after their trials

  • Helping us convert suitable prospects into paying customers

  • Handling member requests and complaints professionally

  • Making sure the gym is clean, presentable and operating properly

  • Monitoring supplies and things that need to be replenished

  • Keeping our records and systems updated

  • Coordinating with Personal Trainers and other team members

  • Identifying operational problems and helping to solve them

  • Making sure important tasks don't fall through the cracks

  • Handling general administrative and operational matters

Although you'll be predominantly based at Bishan, you'll sometimes help me handle matters for our Clementi branch virtually.

This may include responding to enquiries, following up with leads, handling administrative matters and coordinating with the Clementi team.

You generally will not need to travel back and forth between both gyms just to perform these duties.

This Isn't Just Customer Service

If you're good, I want the scope of this role to grow quite significantly.

Over time, I may gradually involve you in areas such as:

  • Improving our operating systems and SOPs

  • Monitoring leads and follow-ups

  • Improving membership and PT conversions

  • Member retention

  • Staff coordination

  • Training newer employees

  • Managing operational issues without my involvement

  • Tracking branch performance

  • Identifying areas of the business that can be improved

  • Taking responsibility for increasingly important parts of the business

Eventually, I want you to understand the business well enough that you don't just execute tasks.

I want you to help me run it better.

Career & Income Progression

I don't believe that progression should simply happen because someone has worked here for X number of years.

Progression here will be based on capability, responsibility and results.

A possible progression could look like:

Gym Operations Executive

Senior Operations Executive

Assistant Gym Manager

Gym / Operations Management

For a strong performer, my intention is to create a pathway where your overall compensation can progressively reach around:

$5,000–$6,000/month

If you're genuinely good, I'm open to this happening within approximately 1.5 years.

There is no requirement for me to wait 1.5 years before progressing you either.

If you're ready earlier, we can move earlier.

Similarly, reaching $5,000–$6,000 isn't automatic just because 1.5 years have passed.

Your progression has to be backed by your ability to take responsibility, produce results and become increasingly valuable to the business.

Starting Salary

$2,800–$3,500/month + Performance Incentives

The exact starting salary will depend on your experience and capabilities.

As you demonstrate that you can handle more responsibility and contribute more to the business, there will be opportunities for your basic salary, incentives and overall compensation to increase.

I'm not looking for someone who wants to do the minimum required to collect a salary every month.

I'm looking for someone who wants to become very good at what they do, take on bigger responsibilities and be rewarded accordingly.

Working Hours & Probation

The first 3 months will be your probation period.

During Your First 3 Months

You'll work a 5.5-day work week.

Your schedule will predominantly be:

  • Sunday to Thursday: Full working days, predominantly 8:00am–5:00pm

  • Friday: Half-day

  • Saturday: Full rest day

This means that Sunday will be a normal working day for this role.

As this is an operations role, there may occasionally be some variation in your hours depending on training, gym operations or other business needs. However, 8:00am–5:00pm will generally be your normal hours on a full working day.

The first 3 months are also when I'll spend more time personally training you, helping you understand how the business works and gradually easing you into the different responsibilities of the role.

After Your 3-Month Probation

Once you've successfully completed probation, your schedule will be compressed into a 5-day work week.

The idea is simple: during your first 3 months, I want us to have more time together so that I can properly train you and build a strong foundation.

Once you've demonstrated that you understand the business, can work independently and can be trusted with your responsibilities, I don't see the need to keep you on a 5.5-day schedule.

You'll move to a 5-day work week, while continuing to take on greater responsibility as you progress within the company.

Start Date

Ideally, I'm looking for someone who can start around mid-October 2026.

However, if you're the right person and you're able to start significantly earlier, I'm happy to have you join earlier.

Training will be provided.

I'll personally spend time getting you familiar with our operations, customers, systems and the way we work.

You are not expected to know how to do everything from Day 1.

Who This Role Probably Isn't For

This probably isn't the right job for you if you:

  • Need to be given a new instruction every time you finish a task

  • Frequently need reminders for things you've already been taught

  • Panic easily when several things happen at once

  • Dislike dealing with customers

  • Prefer saying "that's not my job" when something needs to be solved

  • Only want to complete your assigned tasks and go home

  • Aren't interested in taking on greater responsibility

  • Are mainly looking for something temporary while waiting for another opportunity

There's nothing wrong with wanting that kind of job.

It's just not what I'm hiring for.

Who I Hope To Find

I'm hoping to find someone who, 1–2 years from now, can look back and realise:

"I'm handling things today that Jon would never have trusted me with when I first joined."

And I want to be able to look at the same person and think:

"I can trust this person to make sure things get done properly even when I'm not around."

If the idea of working closely with an owner, learning quickly, taking on increasingly important responsibilities and potentially progressing towards $5,000–$6,000/month excites you, I'd like to hear from you.

How To Apply

WhatsApp me directly at +65 9763 4515.

Please send me your updated resume/CV, together with a short introduction about yourself.

I'd also like you to answer these 3 questions:

  1. What are you currently doing, and why are you considering leaving your current/previous job?

  2. What do you hope your career and income will look like 3 years from now?

  3. Tell me about one situation at work where you noticed a problem and took the initiative to solve it without waiting for your manager to tell you exactly what to do.

Please WhatsApp instead of calling. Callers will not be considered.

And please don't use ChatGPT to give me the "perfect" answers. I'm much more interested in understanding how you actually think and communicate.

One Last Thing

After reading everything above, the job might sound a little scary. 😅

It really isn't.

I'm not expecting you to walk in on Day 1 and suddenly know how to run my business.

I'll provide training and ease you into the role progressively.

Initially, you'll focus on learning the business, our customers, our systems and how we do things. As you become more capable and confident, I'll gradually give you more responsibility.

You'll also be working very closely with me, so you won't be left alone to figure everything out yourself.

And despite how serious this job description might sound, I'm a pretty friendly boss to work with. :)

I just care a lot about doing things properly, providing a good experience for our customers and building a team of people I can trust.

If you're hardworking, willing to learn, able to think ahead and genuinely hungry to progress, I think you'll do well here.

WhatsApp me at +65 9763 4515 with your updated resume if you'd like to have a chat.
