About the role

We are looking for a Manager - Panamax and Handy Operations who will be responsible for leading and managing the Panamax and Handy operations team.

Key responsibility for the incumbent in this position is safe and efficient execution of the voyages and optimizing the profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the Commercial teams and Product groups with productivity focus and critical thinking.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Voyage Operations you will:

  • Ensures the team executes the voyages safely and efficiently against Charter Party agreements and within regulation & standards, always complying with company policy and safety requirements.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of operators, providing clear direction and fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Collaborate with commercial leadership team to identify new projects/initiatives and set operational plans that meet the future demands of the function.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators to track operational performance of the vessels. Ensure the portfolio is optimised for every voyage and conduct post-voyage and month end analysis
  • Identify opportunities to optimise Bunker spend and Port spend and responsible to optimise overall portfolio spend.
  • Identify key risks to the operation and develop strategic and sustainable solutions to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • First level of escalation for incidents and disputes. Provide subject matter expertise to contain and resolve the situation and/or escalate accordingly.
  • Foster and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including vessel owners, clients, agents and terminals, to ensure seamless supply chain operation.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Degree in Marine or a related field.
  • Industry related experience, ideally in dry bulk shipping with minimum 5 years of experience in similar roles in commercial shipping operations
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and problem solve non-routine and complex challenges
  • Detailed knowledge of charter parties and shipping contracts and understanding of maritime regulations, standards and legislation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, vessel owners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven capability to network and establish/maintain relationships
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple and complex work fronts in demanding operational environments
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills to assess performance, identify variances, and make data-driven decisions.
