Job Summary

The ICS (Instrumentation and Control Systems) Commissioning Engineer is responsible for commissioning, starting up, testing, troubleshooting and optimising Mark VIe control systems for heavy-duty gas turbine and combined-cycle power plant projects. The role will lead field instrumentation and control activities and coordinate with engineering teams, system owners, technicians and customers to ensure the safe and successful commissioning of plant systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform the required pre-energisation checks and energise Mark VIe control systems and associated cabinets.
  • Verify that network connections are installed according to approved network topology drawings and establish communication among all connected devices.
  • Review control logic against approved engineering documents and report discrepancies, technical issues and recommendations to the engineering team.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot control-system software, hardware and network issues.
  • Perform or support loop checks and functional, interlock, protection and safety-function tests.
  • Modify and rectify HMI screens and verify alarm settings, configurations and classifications.
  • Configure, test and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols, including Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus.
  • Verify the accuracy of process settings, control parameters and measured variables across plant components and systems.
  • Tune and optimise overall plant control performance in accordance with the approved operating philosophy and contractual requirements.
  • Support the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems and provide technical support to customers.
  • Coordinate functional checks of plant systems with the respective system owners.
  • Lead field instrumentation and control technicians in performing loop checks, calibration, configuration, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Support the setting and testing of instrumentation equipment, including valves, pressure and temperature transmitters, vibration detectors and position switches.
  • Conduct control-logic checks, control-system simulations and safety-function tests.
  • Support plant start-up in manual and automatic control modes, including part-load and base-load adjustment and tuning to meet operational requirements.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Control or Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, is essential.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the commissioning, start-up and testing of control systems, including significant experience with GEV HA-powered Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects, is essential.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in Mark VIe network setup, operation and preventive maintenance, together with knowledge of DCS interfaces, Grid SCADA communication and PLC/bus communication, is essential.
  • Experience working in heavy-duty power plants is an added advantage.
  • Experience performing control-logic verification, loop checks, functional tests, protection tests and safety-function tests.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting industrial communication protocols, including Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus.
  • Experience modifying HMI screens and verifying alarm settings and classifications.
  • Strong software, hardware and control-system troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience leading field instrumentation and control technicians during commissioning activities.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with engineering teams, system owners, technicians and customers.
  • Strong technical documentation, communication and problem-solving skills.
