Senior Freight Analyst (Capesize & Data Analytics)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Freight Analyst to own our Capesize market view and the underlying iron ore and bauxite research. This is a senior, hands-on role spanning freight markets, commodity and data analytics. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of our analytical capabilities, using SQL and Python to work with large datasets, automate research processes and develop systematic market indicators.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

· Own the firm's Capesize freight market view, developing short-, medium- and long-term outlooks.

· Own iron ore and bauxite research, translating supply, demand and seaborne trade fundamentals into cargo and ton-mile demand.

· Monitor key freight and commodity-market drivers and indicators to identify changes in market balances and potential turning points.

· Develop scenario analysis around key market uncertainties and translate research into clear, independent and action able market views.

· Use SQL and Python to analyse large datasets and develop analytical tools, models and indicators to support market analysis and forecasting.

· Automate and improve workflows and analytical capabilities, working with data engineering where appropriate and collaborating across the team to develop an integrated market view.

EXPERIENCE &QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

· 5+ years of relevant experience in freight,commodity, or shipping research/analytics.

· Strong understanding of dry-bulk freight, commodity fundamentals and seaborne trade; direct experience in Capesize, iron ore and/or bauxite would be advantageous.

· Experience developing fundamental market views and analytical models and translating these into forward-looking insights.

· Proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience working with large datasets; data warehouses or Databricks experience would be advantageous.

· Strong commercial judgement, with the abilityto identify relevant market developments and communicate clear, independent views within the team and across the organisation.

· Ability to work independently, take ownership and approach complex problems analytically.

· Experience or interest in automation and emerging analytical tools.
