Applications Programmer – IBM i / AS400

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Applications Programmer with strong IBM i (AS400) expertise to lead application development, enhancement and production support activities for enterprise systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining applications, resolving complex technical issues, supporting releases and ensuring application stability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance and maintain IBM i (AS400/iSeries) applications using RPG, RPGLE, Free Format RPG, SQLRPGLE and CLLE.
• Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable application solutions.
• Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, functions and triggers using DB2 for i.
• Investigate complex production incidents using job logs, system tools and SQL and perform root-cause analysis.
• Lead application enhancements, testing, deployment, release and change management activities.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure application quality, performance and maintainability.
• Support IBM MQ and enterprise application integration interfaces.
• Monitor production jobs and resolve critical application and system issues within agreed timelines.
• Support IBM i administration activities including PTF installations, system upgrades and environment stability.
• Prepare technical documentation and implementation plans.
• Collaborate with business users, technology teams and infrastructure teams to deliver application solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior developers and support teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in application programming, systems programming or software development.
• Strong hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 / iSeries.
• Strong programming skills in RPG/RPGLE, Free Format RPG, SQLRPGLE and CLLE.
• Strong knowledge of DB2 for i and SQL.
• Proven experience in production support, incident management and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with IBM MQ, job scheduling and enterprise application integration.
• Experience with ServiceNow, JIRA, ALDON, TURNOVER and IBM i Access Client Solutions will be an advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring development/support teams is preferred.

Preferred Domain Experience

Experience in banking and financial services applications, including Core Banking, Time Deposits, SWIFT, Cross-Border Payments, Trading, Derivatives, Futures & Options, Clearing & Settlement, Securities or Equities will be an advantage.
