Senior Manager, Environmental Monitoring

The Senior Manager, Environmental Monitoring provides strategic leadership and oversight of environmental monitoring, water quality science, ecosystem health monitoring, and conservation medicine initiatives across the organization. The position serves as the principal environmental health specialist responsible for transforming water quality, environmental, and ecosystem monitoring data into actionable intelligence that supports animal health, habitat management, operational excellence, research, and conservation objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership and governance for environmental monitoring and water quality management programmes.

• Lead and oversee the Water Quality Laboratory Team and its associated functions, including:

o Environmental health strategy development and annual planning.

o Laboratory operations, performance management, and compliance with relevant laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.

o Environmental data integrity, quality assurance, and water testing results reporting.

o Monitoring and analysis of environmental KPIs and long-term ecological trends.

o Scientific advisory services, capability development, and environmental incident and crisis response.

• Establish and advance environmental analytics, data mining, and predictive trend analysis capabilities, including:

o Collection, integration, interpretation, and analysis of complex environmental datasets.

o Identification of emerging risks, generation of predictive insights, development of performance indicators, and support for evidence-based decision-making.

o Development of environmental monitoring frameworks, analytical methodologies, and executive-level reporting tools.

o Provision of scientific recommendations and executive briefings to support management in optimising animal welfare, environmental performance, and operational effectiveness.

• Serve as the key liaison across operational and scientific disciplines, including Animal Health, Veterinary Services, Life Support Systems, Aquarium Care, Conservation, and Research teams, to:

o Facilitate cross-functional environmental risk management and decision-making.

o Coordinate investigations and responses to environmental incidents affecting animal health, welfare, or operational continuity.

o Develop and support research initiatives, environmental surveillance programmes, ecosystem health assessments, and conservation projects.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, audit, and reporting requirements related to environmental monitoring and water quality management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, Aquaculture, Chemistry or related discipline.

• Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience.

• 3-5 years of leadership experience in aquariums, zoological institutions, research organizations or related sectors.

• Highly skilled in water quality monitoring and laboratory operations.

• Proficient in environmental statistics and trend analysis, using Power BI, Tableau, SQL, R, Python or other analytical software.

• Strong in ecosystem health assessment and environmental risk management.

• Strong in scientific communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Strong project management and research coordination skills.

• Strategic thinker and strong in people management.
