Job Description
The Experimental Marine Ecology Laboratory (EMEL) within the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a new project “Sustainable, Productive and Biodiverse Armour Rock for Climate-resilient Coastal Revetments”. This interdisciplinary research aims to develop a sustainable, productive, and biodiversity-enhancing alternative to imported armour rocks for coastal revetments in Singapore. By leveraging locally sourced materials and innovative bio-enhanced concrete designs, the project will develop a practical and scalable solution for climate-resilient coastal infrastructure.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Design and test solutions for increasing biodiversity on new coastal defences.
- Carry out intertidal and subtidal biodiversity surveys
- Coordinate with project partners
- Prepare research manuscripts, reports and presentations
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
Applicants should have completed a PhD in marine biology or ecology. They should have a history of publications consummate with their career stage. Research skills including leadership, excellent statistical and analytical skills, outstanding writing abilities, and the capacity to work within a diverse group of ecologists and marine scientists, are desirable. Candidates should have experience in hybrid shoreline and/or ecological engineering design and testing.
Qualifications
- PhD in Marine Biology or Ecology
- SCUBA certified
Skills:
- Experimental design and analysis (including expertise in R)
- Strong taxonomic and identification abilities
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent time and resource management
Experience:
- Ability to conduct experimental work in field, lab, and aquaria
- Familiarity with nature-based solutions/ecological engineering
- Evidence of high-quality published research
- SCUBA diver with subtidal research experience
