Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to oversee the mechanical performance, maintenance, and technical condition of vessels within the company’s fleet.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring vessels operate safely, reliably, and efficiently, while coordinating with vessel crews, shipyards, contractors, and internal stakeholders on maintenance, repairs, inspections, and technical projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the mechanical maintenance and technical condition of assigned vessels.
- Provide technical support and guidance to Chief Engineers and onboard engineering teams.
- Plan, monitor, and follow up on preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Monitor the performance and reliability of main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors, boilers, fuel systems, and other mechanical equipment.
- Coordinate dry-docking, repairs, overhauls, and refurbishment projects.
- Prepare and manage repair specifications, quotations, budgets, and technical documentation.
- Liaise with shipyards, workshops, manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers.
- Investigate machinery breakdowns and recurring technical issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor vessel maintenance costs and ensure work is completed within approved budgets and timelines.
- Ensure vessels comply with class, flag-state, statutory, and company requirements.
- Support vessel inspections, audits, surveys, and Port State Control requirements.
- Review technical reports, maintenance records, and machinery performance data.
- Assist with the procurement of spare parts, machinery components, and technical services.
- Participate in emergency response and provide technical assistance during critical machinery failures.
- Identify opportunities to improve vessel reliability, operational efficiency, and maintenance practices.
- Maintain accurate technical records and provide regular reports to management.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience as a Mechanical Superintendent or Service Engineer or Commissioning Superintendent
- Strong practical knowledge of marine machinery and mechanical systems.
- Experience managing vessel repairs, maintenance, dry-docking, and machinery overhauls.
- Good understanding of class, flag, statutory, and marine regulatory requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working with shipyards, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and marine service providers.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Willingness to travel and attend vessels, shipyards, and offshore locations when required.
