Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role:

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems, components, and products. This role requires the application of advanced engineering principles to deliver innovative, high-quality, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and technical specifications using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Perform design calculations, simulations, and tolerance analysis.
• Ensure designs comply with functional, safety, regulatory, quality requirements.
• Manage mechanical design projects from concept through production.
• Define project scope, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, quality, and procurement).
• Review and approve engineering designs and changes.
• Conduct engineering analyses and support prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
• Investigate design-related failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM/DFA principles).
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to resolve production issues and improve product quality.
• Support tooling design, assembly processes, and cost reduction initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Establish and maintain best practices, design standards, and engineering processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Typically 6–10+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Proven track record in product design and development.
• Experience with automation, robotics, or mechatronics (if relevant).
• Familiarity with sustainability and cost optimization practices.
• Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
• Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
