Associate Counsel & Legal Technologist, APAC
About this job
The Community You Will Join:
Airbnb’s Legal team embodies the company’s innovative, forward-thinking spirit. At the frontier of the sharing economy, Airbnb is breaking new ground in matters of policy, law, and government relations. Where some see obstacles, we see the opportunity to find creative, practical solutions, right at the cutting edge. Our adventurous, fast-moving legal team is committed to building a team of talented, collaborative and self-motivated legal professionals across the globe who believe in Airbnb’s mission and leading as a 21st century company.
The Difference You Will Make:
This role reports to the Associate General Counsel, Northeast Asia and serves as legal partner to many other teams outside Legal. Collaboration will be a key attribute as this role will work very closely with the other members of the legal team both in the region and globally. This role will be based in Singapore.
A Typical Day:
- Shape what's next. With stakeholder feedback and BizTech as your partner, design and drive the projects that define how Legal works one month, six months, and a year from now, from early idea to shipped product.
- Drive product development with BizTech and work closely with Program Management to ensure that legal product timelines are met.
- Drive change management and adoption of legal tools. Champion every lawyer, in every region.
- Test output of tools to determine efficacy, accuracy and fidelity.
- Work with the Global Commercial & Technology team to develop AI governance for Legal tech tools and own implementation into process.
- Stay abreast of AI governance, privacy, infosec, legal privilege and other associated legal issues - understand substantive requirements under various local laws and identify / mitigate risks in product rollout.
- Keep pace with a fast-moving market. Scan vendors, partners, and new offerings, and recommend where Legal should double down and where to watch and wait.
- Be the trusted first point of contact and expert for legal tech across the global Legal team: work with Biztech to manage the tools we use today, answer questions, and solve problems side by side with users.
- Act as the Legal POC for legal-tech vendors, partnering with Commercial Legal to manage, execute, and negotiate vendor agreements.
- Assist on privacy / infosec matters and project to the extent required for China.
Your Expertise:
- A qualified lawyer, early in career and hungry to grow, who brings energy, drive, and genuine passion for legal technology.
- Curious and adaptable: learns new tools and domains quickly, and stays effective when priorities shift in a fast-moving program.
- Governance first lens, with the judgment to spot when a tool touches privileged, confidential, or personal data, and to set sensible guardrails.
- Open to hands-on building with AI. Willing to experiment with AI-assisted coding, such as assembling prototype apps in a sandbox (e.g., Sandcastle), even without prior coding experience.
- A natural bridge between the legal world and the program-management world: comfortable getting hands-on with program management.
- Highly collaborative, with the communication skills to work with senior stakeholders (DGCs, AI Edge Task Force in Legal, BizTech) across regions and time zones.
- Consistently delivers creative, thoughtful and business-oriented results that appropriately balance growth and risk.
- Tech-forward mindset with a proactive willingness to leverage AI tools to optimize legal productivity.
- Team player, highly collaborative with excellent communication and listening skills.
- Proactive owner who takes initiative while navigating competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Empathetic, caring and humble.
- Occasional international travel (typically twice a year for a few days) may be required, with full consideration for individual circumstances and family commitments.
- Qualified in the People’s Republic of China and possesses at least 4 years of experience in advising China related product and regulatory data privacy matters.
