Role Overview
We are seeking an HSE Superintendent to support the safe and compliant operation of LNG vessels and related marine projects. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental framework, provide guidance to vessels and promote a strong safety culture across fleet operations.
The role will cover incident management, risk assessment, audits, emergency preparedness and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System. Candidates should have seagoing experience up to at least Second Officer level, together with relevant shore-based HSE, marine or operational experience. Previous LNG experience would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide HSE guidance and operational support to LNG vessels and shore-based teams.
- Monitor compliance with the company’s Safety Management System and applicable regulations.
- Conduct vessel inspections, internal audits and safety assessments.
- Review risk assessments, permits to work and Management of Change submissions.
- Lead or support investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Identify root causes, develop corrective actions and monitor their timely closure.
- Analyse fleet safety trends and recommend preventive measures.
- Develop and update HSE policies, procedures and operational guidance.
- Support emergency response planning, exercises and crisis-management activities.
- Promote safety awareness through campaigns, fleet circulars and lessons learned.
- Assist vessels with preparations for external audits, inspections and assurance reviews.
- Support LNG-specific activities, including cargo operations, bunkering, ship-shore interfaces and simultaneous operations.
- Liaise with Marine, Technical, Crewing and Operations teams on safety-related matters.
- Maintain HSE records, performance indicators and management reports.
- Monitor regulatory and industry developments affecting LNG shipping.
- Attend vessels and operational sites when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate of Competency as a Deck Officer, with seagoing experience up to at least Second Officer level.
- Diploma or degree in Nautical Studies, Marine, Safety, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant shore-based experience in HSE, marine operations, ship management or vessel assurance.
- LNG carrier, FSRU, LNG terminal or gas-shipping experience would be highly advantageous.
- Good knowledge of the ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW and relevant maritime regulations.
- Familiarity with LNG operational risks, emergency response and ship-shore safety interfaces.
- Experience in incident investigation, root-cause analysis and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of HAZID, HAZOP, Management of Change or process-safety principles would be advantageous.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections or vessel visits.
- Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence vessel and shore-based stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel and attend vessels as operationally required.
