Job Summary

The Managing Director – Logistics is responsiblefor the overall leadership, strategic direction and business performance of thecompany. The role will oversee the company’s logistics, transportation,delivery and operational activities, while driving business growth, customerrelationships, financial performance and operational efficiency.

The Managing Director will lead the management teamand ensure that the company operates efficiently, safely and in compliance withapplicable Singapore laws, regulations and industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement the company’s short-term and long-term business strategies.
  • Set business objectives, financial targets and operational KPIs.
  • Lead the overall management and strategic direction of the company.
  • Identify new business opportunities, market trends and potential areas for expansion.
  • Develop strategies to increase revenue, profitability and market presence.
  • Review and improve the company’s business model, service offerings and operational processes.

2. Logistics & Transport Operations

  • Oversee the company’s day-to-day logistics, transportation, delivery and fleet operations.
  • Ensure efficient planning and deployment of vehicles, drivers, attendants and other operational resources.
  • Monitor delivery schedules, vehicle utilisation, turnaround time and service quality.
  • Establish and maintain operational procedures for collection, transportation and delivery of goods.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance, vehicle replacement and asset utilisation.
  • Ensure that logistics operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Work with operations managers and supervisors to resolve delivery, manpower and customer issues.

3. Business Development & Customer Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers and business partners.
  • Lead negotiations for major logistics, transportation and service contracts.
  • Identify potential customers and develop new business opportunities.
  • Prepare and review quotations, commercial proposals and service agreements.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and ensure timely resolution of service issues.
  • Develop strategic partnerships to expand the company's logistics network and services.

4. Financial & Commercial Management

  • Oversee company budgets, revenue, expenses and profitability.
  • Review pricing strategies and ensure that services are commercially viable.
  • Monitor operating costs, fuel costs, vehicle expenses, manpower costs and other overheads.
  • Review financial performance and implement corrective measures where required.
  • Work with finance and administrative teams on cash flow, receivables and cost control.
  • Approve major expenditures and business investments in accordance with company policies.

5. Manpower & Team Management

  • Lead and supervise management, operations and administrative personnel.
  • Determine manpower requirements according to business needs.
  • Recruit, train and develop key management and operational staff.
  • Establish performance targets and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Promote a professional, productive and safety-conscious working environment.
  • Ensure employees understand and comply with company policies and procedures.

6. Compliance, Risk & Safety

  • Ensure the company complies with applicable Singapore laws, regulations and licensing requirements.
  • Oversee workplace safety, transportation safety and risk-management procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, insurance, licences and permits are maintained.
  • Monitor operational risks and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Work with relevant authorities, professional advisers and external stakeholders when required.

7. Operational Improvement

  • Review existing logistics processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Implement technology, systems and processes to improve fleet management, delivery tracking and customer service.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and take corrective action where performance does not meet targets.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and management systems for scalable business growth.

8. Corporate Management

  • Represent the company in meetings with major customers, suppliers, business partners and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular business and operational updates to the Board of Directors / shareholders.
  • Participate in strategic decision-making and corporate planning.
  • Protect the company's commercial interests, reputation and assets.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities reasonably assigned by the Board of Directors.

Job Requirements

EssentialRequirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Transport Management or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics operations, fleet management, transportation planning and delivery services.
  • Proven experience in business development, customer management and commercial negotiations.
  • Strong financial and commercial management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk, workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple departments and lead a diverse workforce.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and business management systems.
  • Willing to travel locally and, where required, overseas for business meetings or operations.

PreferredQualifications & Experience

  • Experience managing a logistics or transportation company in Singapore.
  • Experience managing a fleet of commercial vehicles / lorries.
  • Experience in B2B transportation, cargo delivery, warehousing, freight forwarding or last-mile delivery.
  • Established network of logistics customers, suppliers and business partners.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and tender management.
  • Experience in implementing fleet-management or logistics-management systems.
  • Class 3 / Class 4 driving licence would be an advantage but is not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Singapore transport, employment, workplace safety and logistics-related regulations would be an advantage.
