ASE is an interdisciplinary school that will be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability.
We are hiring a laboratory manager to support the operation and management of research laboratories in the Asian School of the Environment. The laboratory manager will coordinate procurement of chemicals, consumables and scientific equipment; maintain chemical and equipment inventories; and oversee equipment servicing and maintenance. The role will provide training and technical support to students and researchers in the operation and troubleshooting of analytical instruments. The laboratory manager will also support laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, inspections and risk assessments, and contribute to the efficient day-to-day operation of research facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate procurement of chemicals, lab consumables, field equipment, and scientific instrumentation to support research activities and operational requirements
Provide training and technical support to undergraduate students, postgrad researchers, and lab users on the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instruments including iSEAL, TOC/TN analyzer, ICP-OES, CHN analyzer and GC-MS.
Maintain and manage comprehensive chemical inventories across multiple laboratories, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and laboratory safety standards.
Oversee equipment maintenance schedules, service records to ensure operational reliability and data quality
Support asset tracking, inventory control, and lifecycle management of laboratory equipment
Ensure laboratories meet health, safety and environmental requirements through regular inspections and risk assessments
Serve as a member of the lab safety committee and chemical spill response team
Provide operational and administrative support for lab management, ensuring efficient day-to-say functioning of research facilities
Job Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or equivalent.
Experience working in a chemical and/or biological laboratory.
Experience or familiarity with laboratory equipment, chemical management and laboratory safety.
Familiarity with analytical instruments such as TOC/TN analyzers, ICP-OES, CHN analyzers and GC-MS is advantageous.
Good organizational, troubleshooting and record-keeping skills.
Good communication skills and ability to provide technical support and training.
Able to work independently and as a good team player.
