GO13484004 - Lead Software Engineer – Back Office Systems (Commodities)

The Company

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join the technology team of a major commodities trading business. This role will lead the design and development of key back-office systems spanning finance, treasury, settlements, and regulatory reporting across the full physical and financial trade lifecycle. You'll set the direction for the development backlog, act as a trusted technical advisor to the business, and lead a team delivering solutions that keep back-office operations accurate, compliant, and efficient.

The Role

• Own the design and build of core finance systems, P&L attribution, daily flash reporting, invoicing, trade settlement automation, intercompany accounting/reconciliation, and month-end close automation across the full physical and financial trade lifecycle.
• Lead integrations between finance systems and other platforms across the trading estate: ERP, trading systems, risk, and COTS applications.

• Set the direction and priorities for the development backlog, working directly with the business to translate finance/back-office needs into technical solutions.
• Shape technology strategy and roadmap for the finance application landscape, bringing new tools and approaches into the mix where they add value.
• Partner with support and project teams on service improvements, deployments, and resolving technical issues.
• Build and maintain documentation and design-pattern knowledge so solutions are well-understood and easy to extend.
• Act as a driving force for innovation and best practice, both within your team and across the broader development community.

Your Profile

• 8–10 years of experience in a similar development leadership role, including 5+ years in a commodities or financial services firm.
• Strong hands-on skills across C#, .NET Core, Angular 17+, and SQL Server
• Experience with microservices, Azure Cloud Services, and test automation frameworks (e.g. xUnit, NUnit).
• Basic knowledge of SAP integration and proven experience in Agile development teams.
• Preferred: exploratory data analysis, data engineering (Azure Data Factory or Databricks), and knowledge of the order-to-cash accounting process.
