Overview*
Reporting to the Chief Radiation Physicist, you will provide scientific, educational, research, safety and technical support as well as mentorship in a radiation therapy department.
Job Responsibilities*You will be primarily responsible (80%) for the following:
• Radiation dosimetry, calibration and in-vivo measurements.
• Quality assurance of treatment machines, treatment planning systems and dosimetry equipment.
• Radiation safety measurements and administration.
• Radiation treatment plan quality assurance.
• Equipment commissioning and acceptance.
• Professional development, training and orientation in all areas of radiation therapy physics.
You will be secondarily responsible (20%) for the following: Research and development.
• Mentorship for Radiation Physicists
Requirements*A postgraduate degree in Medical Physics is preferred. A postgraduate degree in Physics or Engineering is also acceptable.
5 to 10 years of clinical experience preferred
Skills Required
• Publications in recognized journals.
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Knowledge and understanding of the operational characteristics, usage, and safety parameters of a comprehensive range of radiation therapy equipment and facilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Computer hardware and software knowledge and skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
• Ability to design, develop and modify radiation therapy devices and modalities.
• Knowledge of radiation safety principles, methods, and procedures
• Knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and standards for the provision of medical physics/radiation therapy to patients.
• Advises and consults with medical providers and specialists.
• Researches and develops new devices and modalities for improved therapeutic use of radiation.
Working Conditions
• Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.
• Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 kilograms.
• Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
• Occasionally work may need to be completed outside normal working hours including weekends.
