Job Description & Requirements
Teacher for Children with Special Needs, is responsible for providing support and specialized care to students with various disabilities, including physical, cognitive, emotional, or developmental impairments. They work to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that facilitates the social, emotional, and educational development of these students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Instruction: Develop and implement customized lesson plans and teaching strategies to address the unique needs and abilities of each student which include helping students to complete homework, learn spelling and etc.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Conduct regular assessments to track student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly. Maintain detailed records of student development.
- Behavior Management: Manage and address challenging behaviors using positive behavior support techniques, therapeutic interventions, and individualized behavior plans.
- Personal Care: Assist students with daily living activities, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility support, as needed.
- Communication: Facilitate effective communication and social interaction among students, encouraging peer engagement and language development.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with other special education professionals, therapists, parents, and school staff to create a supportive network for students.
- Safety and Health: Ensure the safety and well-being of students, monitoring their health and administering medication when necessary
- Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in special education and attend training to improve teaching skills and knowledge of specific disabilities.
Requirements:
- Education: Diploma
- Certification: Certification in special education or a relevant teaching certification is required.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children with special needs is highly desirable. This can include student teaching, internships, or work in related fields.
- Patience and Empathy: Ability to connect with and understand the needs of students with special needs. Patience and empathy are essential traits.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to collaborate with students, parents, and other professionals.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust teaching methods and approaches based on individual student needs and progress.
