Maths Teacher (IB: MYP / DP)

Job Purpose
HWA International School is seeking a mathematically proficient and pedagogically skilled Secondary Mathematics Specialist. You will be responsible for the academic excellence of students within the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). Your role is to deliver a rigorous, inquiry-based curriculum that prepares students for external eAssessments and DP Final Examinations, ensuring they develop both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.

Job Responsiblities

Instructional Delivery: Lead Mathematics classes with a teaching load of 30 periods per week across the MYP and DP levels.

Culture & Collaboration: Engage proactively with leadership, colleagues, and the wider school community to foster a dynamic, aspirational, and innovative culture. Contribute to a professional learning community grounded in collaboration, data-informed decision-making, and a relentless focus on improving student learning outcomes.

Curriculum Alignment: Partner with IB Coordinators to develop, implement, and deliver HWA’s curricular goals in alignment with the school’s strategic framework.

Pedagogical Differentiation: Design and implement differentiated instruction tailored to individual student needs, learning profiles, and aptitude levels.

Professional Growth: Maintain a commitment to being an active, life-long learner, staying current with evolving pedagogical practices.

Non-teaching duties

Assessment Standards: Maintain a deep familiarity with, and strictly adhere to, all regulatory requirements for IB external examinations and internal assessments (IAs).

Extended Professional Duties: Participate in essential professional activities outside of standard school hours, including field trips, weekend professional development as required, and after-school faculty meetings.

Student Supervision: Undertake supervisory duties during break, lunch, and other unstructured times to ensure student safety and well-being.

Co-Curricular Leadership: Lead or coach at least one after-school Co-Curricular Activity (CCA).

Operational Support: Assist with internal substitution coverage according to departmental needs and manage specialised teaching materials and resources within the laboratory or classroom.

Institutional Contribution: Support continuous school improvement by actively participating in assigned committees or working groups.

General Accountability: Execute any other reasonable duties as delegated by the School Leadership Team.

Support for staff's professional learning

• Collaborative Practice: Promote a culture of shared professional practice and build effective, learning-focused relationships with peers.

• Mentorship: Support new colleagues by providing coaching and facilitating access to essential learning resources, curriculum materials, and student achievement data.
  

  Requirements

• Academic Qualifications: Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a highly related field (or equivalent).

• Professional Experience: 2 to 3 years of relevant teaching experience, specifically within the IB MYP/DP framework.

• Curriculum Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development and IB assessment criteria.

• Soft Skills: Highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multicultural environment.

• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills.

• Preferred Attribute: Candidates with valid IB Professional Development certifications (Category 1, 2, or 3) are strongly preferred.
