Head of Crew Management (Asia)
About this job
Overall ownership of crewing across our technical managed fleet in Singapore. This role is within our Crew Management function, reporting to the Crew Director, with direct influence over the quality, cost, and wellbeing of the seafarers who keep our vessels running.
Duties
- Take overall charge of all crewing-related matters across the fleet.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with all crewing stakeholders, including manning offices, unions, and vessel management teams.
- Develop and execute comprehensive planning, recruitment, training, and retention strategy, subject to management approval.
- Monitor compensation and benefits strategy for seafarers, including regular market benchmarking.
- Ensure all seafarers complete training in line with the training matrix.
- Deliver cost-efficient manning while safeguarding the quality of seafarers recruited and retained.
- Oversee and hold accountable the performance of manning offices.
- Drive performance management for seafarers across the fleet.
- Handle internal and external audits and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Ensure every vessel and seafarer is covered by a valid Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Establish, monitor, and report KPIs for the crewing function.
- Develop and mentor employees within the department.
- Upholds Thome values across all tasks.
- Take on other responsibilities as assigned by the Crew Director.

Required Qualifications & Experiences
- Significant experience in maritime crewing or crew management, with a track record of leading the function end-to-end.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with manning offices and unions.
- Solid understanding of seafarer compensation, benefits, and benchmarking practices.
- Experience managing training matrices and compliance requirements for seafarers.
- A track record of balancing cost efficiency with crew quality and retention.
- Familiarity with CBAs and crew payroll processes.
- Strong leadership skills with a genuine interest in developing people.
- Alignment with OSM Thome's values of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
