Business Technology Support - Global Markets IT

Division Summary:

Global Markets Technology provides technology strategy, architecture, programme management, development and support for the Global Markets and Operations business areas. It is aligned across the following areas:

• FX & Rates
• Commodities
• eCommerce
• Operations

The technology team has a global operating model providing services from London, Singapore and with relevant SBG support teams.

Job Purpose:

The Global Markets IT department delivers secure, scalable, and innovative technology solutions across the bank's global operations. The team supports business users across trading, risk, operations, finance, and other functions.

We are looking for an AI Engineer to join the team. This role is ideal for someone with a technical background who wants to develop skills in trading technology, application support, data engineering, and AI technologies.

The successful candidate will help support business-critical trading applications, investigate incidents, perform operational monitoring, assist with data processing activities, and contribute to the development of AI and data solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

Trading Application Support

• Provide first and second-line support for front-office trading, risk, and market data applications.
• Monitor production systems and proactively identify issues affecting traders and business users.
• Investigate application incidents, troubleshoot problems, and coordinate resolutions with technology teams and vendors.
• Support daily operational activities including trade processing, market data validation, batch monitoring, and reconciliation processes.
• Participate in production support rotations and assist with incident management activities.
• Maintain support documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge articles.
• Build strong relationships with business users and provide timely communication during incidents and service disruptions.

Data Engineering & Analytics Support

• Assist in the development and maintenance of data pipelines and automated data processing solutions.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks.
• Support the creation of reports, dashboards, and datasets used by business and technology teams.
• Help maintain data catalogues, metadata, and documentation.
• Investigate data issues and support remediation activities.

AI & Innovation Support

• Assist senior engineers with the implementation of AI-enabled solutions and automation initiatives.
• Support testing and deployment activities for AI and data products.
• Learn and apply AI technologies including Microsoft Copilot, GitHub CoPilot, and automation tools where appropriate.
• Help gather requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement using data and AI technologies.

Operations & Controls

• Support monitoring, alerting, and operational health checks across production environments.
• Assist with disaster recovery testing, business continuity activities, and operational readiness reviews.
• Follow security, risk, and governance controls when handling data and supporting applications.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system stability and operational efficiency.

Collaboration

• Work closely with traders, operations teams, risk users, and technology colleagues.
• Participate in project delivery, testing, and change management activities.
• Learn industry best practices for trading systems, financial markets, data management, and AI technologies.
• Contribute positively to team objectives and knowledge sharing.

Required Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Values:

Essential Skills & Experience

• Exposure to AI, machine learning, Microsoft Copilot, or data analytics solutions.
• Basic understanding of financial markets, trading environments, or banking technology.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using SQL to investigate data and support business processes.
• Understanding of databases, data processing, and system integrations.
• Experience investigating incidents and troubleshooting technical issues.
• Good communication skills with the ability to interact with both technical and business stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
• Understanding of ITIL principles, incident management, and change management processes.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience with AI technologies, including, but not limited to machine learning.
• Experience supporting trading, market risk, settlement, or market data applications.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Murex, Bloomberg, Reuters, or other trading systems.
• Exposure to Python, PowerShell, or automation scripting.
• Knowledge of Azure, cloud platforms, or modern data technologies.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
• Understanding of data quality, reconciliation, and operational controls.
• Proficiency in Mandarin would be advantageous for the role, to facilitate communication with Mandarin-speaking users and stakeholders where required.
