Senior Pre-Development Engineer

About The Role

Defines the future of existing platform(s) and/or the need of new platforms to drive Performance, Quality and Cost. Creating platform strategy per (sub)category, she/he has a pivotal role in maximizing value potential and innovativeness of platforms, following business priorities and Product category strategy.

Reports into: Group Lead Pre-development & Testing

The Impact You’ll Make:

• Stretches existing platforms or designs new platforms (performance / cost / quality) that will be the base for new coming product projects in each category.
• Responsible for performance / quality / cost of components, module & assemblies applied on platform, by working with Product Project manager and leader to validate it. Understands how to optimize the full value potential. Defines needed improvements and oversees their executions.
• Testing and Analysis: Developing and executing test method and test plans together with the Testing team to evaluate & verify the platform on both part & system level.
• Understands how to optimize the full value potential of existing platforms. Defines needed improvements and oversees their executions.
• Leads platforms benchmark to ensure current platform’s competitiveness. Supports scouting team in analyse and assess new supplier-based innovation and their platform according to the (sub)category platform strategy.
• Works out WHAT and HOW with regards to interfaces and specific requirements between mechanical, electronics, digital, industrialization, sustainability experts and teams.
• Collaboration: Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, including Product team, R&D functions, Manufacturing, and Quality to take a solution from conception through development and into production.

The Skills And Knowledge You’ll Bring:

• 5+ years in product engineering development and transfer to manufacturing (preferably for high volume/mass-produced devices)
• Knowledge and experience in system engineering, thermal (heat) management, fluid-flow system, design 2D/3D CAD Modelling and Design (e.g. NX-Siemens, SolidWorks)
• Bachelor/master's degree in mechanical / Mechatronics engineering
• Strong analytical skills and conceptual thinking along with systematic approach towards problem-solving (e.g. Design for Six Sigma)
• Strong communicator, capable of working and influencing with cross-functional teams of internal and external organization.
